3 What to do when ...
This chapter contains a number of subjects that are intended to help you during your daily work on
a SIPLACE line.
For example, you are provided with preventative measures that you can take to minimize the down
time on the machine to obtain the highest possible level of efficiency for the SIPLACE line during
production.
In addition, the tasks of the operator and of the line engineer are described in an operator and line
engineer profile, respectively, in this chapter.

3.1 Switching on the SIPLACE line
3.1.1 Switching on the line computer (UNIX) / starting the user interface of the line
computer program
Æ Switch on the uninterruptible power supply (UPS).
The line computer software is uploaded.
The login dialog window appears on the screen after approximately 2 minutes.
Æ Enter plr in the "login" box and confirm your entry by pressing the RETURN key.
Æ Enter the password in the "Password" box and press the RETURN key. If no password is re-
quired, then just press the RETURN key
The desktop (starting window) will appear on screen after approximately 3 minutes with the
overlying login box.
Æ Enter the user name defined for your user account in the "User" box, and enter the correspond-
ing password in the "Password" box.
Æ Click on Ok to confirm. The functions of the line computer program can now be executed ac-
cording to your access rights.
3.1.2 Switch on line computer (Windows NT with SIPLACE Pro line software)
/start up the SIPLACE Pro user interface
Æ Switch the line computer on. Once the computer has started up, the Windows NT log-in win-
dow appears.
Æ Enter your user name and password to log into your domain.
Æ From the Windows NT Start menu, start SIPLACE Pro by selecting:
Start
Programs Siemens SIPLACE entry
or
click on the icon on the desktop to start SIPLACE Pro.
The system connects to the SIPLACE Pro server and starts the SIPLACE Pro user interface.3
