2.1.3.3 Safety of plant and equipment
Never make changes, however minor, unless you are totally aware of the effect they will have
on the overall functioning of the system.
The stations must always be set up, retooled and maintained by appropriately trained person-
nel.
Do not make modifications to the safety equipment. In particular, NEVER deactivate circuit-
breakers or remove safety devices.
2.1.4 Safety instructions for laser units
Permission to operate components that are classified as lasers is withdrawn if
Mechanical damage to the unit is observed, or
Any work is done on the mechanical or electrical parts of the unit. Even damaged or miss-
ing screw locking paint on laser components (e.g. cover plates, fasteners, adjusting po-
tentiometer) counts as work.
Only ASM Assembly Systems GmbH&Co.KG service engineers or the machine owner's
service engineers, who have been trained by ASM, may replace laser components.
Repairs to laser assemblies may only be performed by ASM Assembly Systems
GmbH&Co.KG at their factory.
WARNING
Dangerous voltage levels!
The placement machines are operated electrically. Certain parts are still live when the
main power switch is off and the mains plug has been disconnected. Switch off the main
switch, secure to prevent switching on, disconnect the mains plug and wait for 5 minutes.
There is a risk of death, severe injury and/or considerable damage to equipment if these
instructions are not followed.
Switch off at the main switch and disconnect the placement machine from the power
supply before carrying out any work on live components.
Test to check that there is no remaining voltage supply. See the procedure described
in the service manual.
Lock the placement machine as described in section 2.9, page 95.

DANGER
Risk to life from powerful magnetic fields caused by the permanent magnets inside the
placement machine
When protective covers are opened inside the placement machine, the life of persons
with the following passive or active implants is put at risk:
Pacemakers
Defibrillators
Insulin pumps etc.
At-risk people may not stand in the immediate vicinity of the placement machine.
WARNING
DANGER OF CRUSHING!
There is a danger of crushing for persons with passive metal implants (e.g. plates,
screws).
Never reach into the placement machine when the protective covers are open and
do not bend over the open placement machine.
Do not bring any metal objects into the danger area.
CAUTION
Data loss due to powerful magnetic fields!
There is a risk that the powerful magnetic fields could corrupt data on data media or credit
cards and check cards.
Keep data carriers and check cards away from the placement machine.

Fig. 2.1 - 1 Position of the permanent magnets for the linear drives (example of SIPLACE X4i S shown)
(1) Permanent magnets for X linear motors
(2) Permanent magnets for Y linear motors
Please note the following points when working on the permanent magnets:
People with active implants (e.g. heart pacemakers) or other ferromagnetic prostheses are
expressly prohibited from working on or coming near these devices. Always keep a safe dis-
tance from the linear motor.
The powerful magnetic forces of attraction mean that particular caution is needed in the im-
mediate vicinity of the magnet track and of the moving primary part. Never move heavy or
wide objects made of steel or iron manually into the vicinity of the magnet track. The magnetic
force of attraction is not visible, so its effects in the vicinity of the magnet track are generally
underestimated. The magnetic attraction can start suddenly, and can reach several thousand
Newtons in the vicinity of ferromagnetic objects (made of steel or iron) of similar size to the
magnet track.
