3 Upgrading to the 704.01 software version
This chapter describes which steps you have to attend when upgrading from different software versions.
When upgrading the station software, always check the eSW versions and download the current versions
if necessary.
Note:
- With the installation of the 704.01 station software, statistic data (maintenance intervals) is
registered for the CPP placement head and the SX main axis. In order to achieve a defined
initial state for the maintenance due, the correspondent maintenance operations have to be
performed on the subsystems after the software installation.
Note:
- An upgrade of the embedded software is necessary for the X-LDU. Generally, it is not
possible to perform a download of the embedded software via the station software for the X-
LDU. The X-LDU has to be upgraded to the 2.02 software version with the aid of an
external PC.
3.1 Upgrading from the 703.02 software version
SX-series placement machines in the field:
Due to the SW component counter, the HCU/GCU and the sensor modules have to be programmed.
For this, perform the work steps that are described in the Technical Informations TI2010-02V01 and
TI2010-02C01 about programming HCU/GCU for the 704 upgrade. These work steps can only be
performed by Siemens Service.
SX 1/2 placement machine:
In order to use the "Long Board" option and the "Gantry Modularity" functionality, PCB mapping and
head mapping have to be performed.
Placement machines with FC camera:
The entire placement head has to be calibrated.
X4I placement machine:
The machine zero points, tables, nozzle changers, PCB reference corners and, if stationary cameras
are present the placement heads as well, have to be recalibrated (due to a changed handling of
double zero points on the X4I placement machine). No mapping is necessary.
Save the calibration data for the placement heads (except Twin Head) in the EEPROM
(see section
7.8).

3.2 Upgrading from the 703.01 software version
3.2.1 SX-series placement machines
SX-series placement machines in the field:
Due to the SW component counter, the HCU/GCU and sensor modules have to be programmed. For
this, perform the work steps that are described in the Technical Informations TI2010-02V01 and
TI2010-02C01 about programming HCU/GCU for the 704 upgrade. These work steps can only be
performed by Siemens Service.
Exchange the X/Y sensor modules to X-03068500-03 / Y-03064608-03.
Install the 704.01 station software.
Shut down the machine.
Remove the tables.
Switch on the machine again and wait until all error messages have been displayed and the eSW
download menu is enabled.
Perform the eSW download for all subsystems.
Reboot the machine.
Place the tables.
The eSW download for the feeders starts automatically.
Save the calibration data for the placement heads (except Twin Head) in the EEPROM (see section
7.8).
Calibrate the machine by performing the following steps:
Calibrate the gantry axis (activate the options Y-axis: Encoder Alignment, Travel
range, X-axis: Parameterization, Y-axis: Mapping in the list).
Perform PCB and head mapping.
Start the production.
3.2.2 X-series placement machines
Install the 704.01 machine computer software for two-computer operation, see chapter 5.
Install the Vision computer software, see chapter 6.
Shut down the machine.
Remove the tables.
Switch on the machine again and perform the eSW download.
Reboot the machine.
Place the tables.
The eSW download for the feeders starts automatically.
Save the calibration data for the placement heads in the EEPROM (see section 7.8).
Start the production.

3.3 Upgrading from 701.xx software versions (X4I placement machine)
Download the SIPLACE_Prepare_703.02_Hotfix01.exe file from the Software Downloadcenter and
execute the file.
Reboot the machine and perform an eSW download for the placement heads.
Calibrate the nozzle changer.
Calibrate the conveyor.
Start the production.
3.4 Upgrading from 60x software versions (X-series placement machines)
By upgrading from 60x station software versions, a complete reinstallation/recalibration and mostly also a
hardware rebuilding will be necessary. For this, a corresponding upgrade package is available, that can be
installed by Siemens Service if required.
Ser.No. B001 – B325: cannot be upgraded to the 70x software.
Ser.No. B326 – B599: can only be upgraded to the 70x software by a service team from Munich.
Ser.No. B600 – B751: Update of CAN node and upgrade of the C&P20 nozzle changer to the -04 version
required.
As of Ser.No. B752 the software upgrade to the 70x software can be performed without any hardware
rebuildings.
In the following flowchart all steps are described that have to be performed for the upgrade. At a glance,
these are:
- Downloading the eSW file from the installation CD (directory Upgrade_Preparation_704.01/60x) and
executing an eSW download for the placement heads (TQM) with CACCIA from a service PC (not for
C&P6/12 placement heads)
- Preparing Box PCs and hardware (see flowchart)
- Installing Windows XP Embedded (recommended) or Windows XP on both Box PCs
- Installing the 704.01 machine computer software for two-computer operation, see chapter 5
- Installing the Vision computer software, see chapter 6
- Shutting down the machine
- If necessary, performing hardware rebuildings
