2.5 Preparation
: Pull out all feeder tables
: Switch the machine off at the main switch.
: Interrupt the power supply to the machine to prevent the risk of electric shock.

Before restarting the placement machine connect and bolt the HUB electrical conducting with the
machine frame! 2
: Read the installation instructions carefully.
2.6 Additional COM port for station computers
The splice detector is linked to the station computer via one of the COM ports. Please check whe-
ther the station computer has a free COM port (9 pins). 2
HS50 machines with a UPS (uninterruptible power supply) generally have a free COM port. If this
is the case, no further components have to be installed. Use COM port 4. 2
HS50 machines without a UPS generally do not have a free COM port, so you will have to install
the COM card supplied. 2

Before assembling the card note type/identification of the card to install later the adequate driver.2

: Switch the station computer off. Disconnect the computer from the power supply.
: Pull out the computer - you may have to disconnect other connecting cables to do this.
: Remove the cover from the station computer.
: Find a free slot for your COM card.
: Remove the blanking plate over the card slot in the computer.

: Insert the card into the slot and clamp in place.
: Close the computer case.
: Push the computer back into position and strap in place.
: Reconnect the power supply and all other connections.

The ports are numbered consecutively, starting from 1. If two COM ports were previously assi-
gned, your new port will be number 3. 2

2.6.1 Installation of drivers
Windows NT 2
With the COM card (Item no.: 00373380-01) an installation CD / floppy disks and an installation
manual are delivered. 2
: Install the driver as described in the manual.
Windows XP (from SW 505 on) 2
The necessary drivers are stored on the installation CD. When restarting the computer you will be
asked to insert the CD.
The computer will search for the drivers and install them. 2

The hub is fitted beneath the side panel of the input conveyor (see Fig. 2.11 - 1). 2
