General
The application of flatpack ICs is gaining increasing significance in the production of printed circuit
boards. These components are now used almost exclusively in waffle pack trays. However, the space
taken up by waffle pack trays is relatively large, compared to the density of components. In addition, the
low component capacity requires that the waffle pack trays are changed frequently. When trays are
changed manually, the production process is also interrupted
The use of a SIPLACE® Wafflepack Changer prevents unnecessary loss of time during saving and au-
tomatic changing of waffle pack trays. The individual, programmable access to up to 28 waffle pack tray
carriers also increases the range of components available.
The Wafflepack Changer makes flatpack ICs available in waffle pack trays, preventing unnecessary loss
of time during saving and automatic changing of waffle pack trays. The individual, programmable access
to up to 28 waffle pack trays also increases the range of components available.
The Wafflepack Changer has an integrated carriage, allowing it to be moved easily to other locations on
the line. It is supplied with the PCB conveyor height set for the customer-specific machine but can be
quickly and easily adapted to conveyor heights of 900, 930 and 950 mm.

1.2.1.1 Wafflepack Changer Principle
Wafflepack Changer Principle
The Waffle Pack Changer can save and automatically change up to 28 waffle pack tray carriers. The tray
carriers (levels) are numbered in ascending order (1 - 28).
The waffle pack tray storage unit moves in a vertical direction until the selected level is in the travel range
of the feed axis. This feed axis grips the tray carrier, removes it and transports it to the placement head
pickup area.
The following diagram shows the Wafflepack Changer principle.

Legend
1. The lifting axis of the waffle pack tray storage unit positions the selected waffle pack tray carrier to
the height of the horizontal feed axis.
2. The feed axis then moves the waffle pack tray carrier to the placement head pickup area.
3. The components are removed.
4. The waffle pack tray carrier is then moved back to the tray storage unit.
The waffle pack trays are defined in the setup with their corresponding components. After converting the
setup, the tray storage unit performs a reference run.
The position of the waffle pack tray carrier in the tray storage unit and the placement contents of the tray
carrier are defined in the setup.
NOTICE
Placement procedure interrupted
If the placement procedure is interrupted and the Wafflepack Changer is switched off, the setup
and current component level details are still kept.
