INTRODUCTION
Safety The following safety notices are used in this manual:
WARNING
BOARD CLAMPS. EXTREME CARE MUST BE EXERCISED WHEN WORKING IN
THE TOOLING AREA OF THE MACHINE TO AVOID INJURY. THE FOILS ON THE
FRONT AND REAR BOARD CLAMPS ARE VERY SHARP.
WARNING
HARMFUL SUBSTANCES. CLEANING WIPES AND CLEANING SOLUTIONS MAY
CONTAIN SUBSTANCES HAZARDOUS TO HEALTH. WHEN USING CLEANING
WIPES AND CLEANING SOLUTIONS THE MANUFACTURERS’ SAFETY DATA
SHEETS MUST BE STRICTLY ADHERED TO.
MANDATORY
TOXIC CHEMICALS MAY BE PRESENT. SAFETY GLOVES MUST BE WORN.
MANDATORY
TOXIC CHEMICALS MAY BE PRESENT. EYE PROTECTION MUST BE WORN.
The machine must be powered down, the isolator switch locked and the
pneumatics disconnected during maintenance procedures such as inspection/
checking, cleaning and lubricating.
Where the procedure requires the machine to be powered (e.g. dimension,
calibration, setting or a belt tension check), the procedure must be carried out
as stated in the relevant chapter of the Technical Reference manual to ensure
safe working practices.
Material Safety
Data Sheets
Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) listing the health and safety aspects
applicable to consumables such as cleaning materials, oils and greases are
available on request from the purchase source.
If difficulty is experienced in obtaining any MSDS, assistance is available from
ASM. Contact your local ASM agent.
Philosophy Recommended Preventive Maintenance (PM) is to be performed monthly as
defined in the programme.
There is a daily maintenance program for the machine operator which must be
completed before the monthly maintenance is started.
If any items or parts are found to be defective, please contact your local ASM
agent.
The PM must be adhered to in the order that it has been presented.

Chapter Issue 2, July 16 Maintenance Manual 1.3
The Preventive
Maintenance
Schedule
The monthly schedule consists of two modules each taking approximately 2
hours to complete. Each process of the maintenance programme is only
described in enough detail to act as guidance to those ASM authorized person-
nel using it. These modules are to be carried out by ASM authorized personnel
who have successfully completed the ASM Maintenance Course.
It is recommended that this manual is stored away as the maintenance record
of the machines’ service history.
Disposal of Waste
Materials
All waste materials including fluids and contaminated materials must be dis-
posed of in accordance with national, federal or local legislation.
Warranty The monthly maintenance schedule must only be performed by ASM mainte-
nance trained personnel to prevent damage to the machine and maintain a valid
warranty.
Compliance with the preventive maintenance procedures described in this
manual is an essential element of the machine warranty policy as defined in the
‘ASM Standard Warranty Statement’.
It is highly recommended that the maintenance schedule is followed outside the
warranty period to maintain the machine in top working condition and to
maintain accuracy. Extra Maintenance Manuals can be ordered from DEK
Spares quoting the part number on the front cover of this manual.

Linear Bearings
and Guide Rails
All linear bearing blocks, fitted to the machine, are greased for life and require
no greasing although a grease nipple may be fitted.
The linear bearing guide rails require no maintenance unless they become
contaminated. In the event of contamination, carry out the following procedure:
1. Clean the linear bearing guide rail using a plastic spatula.
2. Remove any build up of grease around the linear bearing block.
3. Apply a very thin coating of THK AFB grease along the whole length of the
guide rail using a cloth. Ensure that the three exposed faces are greased to
prevent surface rust.
