Three placement variants can be used to process the components:
– The Collect&Place method
– The Pick&Place method and
– A combination of the Collect&Place and Pick&Place method (mixed mode).

The placement machines are based on a torsionally-rigid and vibration-damped machine frame.
This guarantees an excellent production quality and less environmental pollution for employees
since the noise of shaking and vibration are reduced to a minimum. The gantry arms are light-
weight constructions made from a highly rigid carbon fiber composite material.
The SIPLACE X4I placement machine has gantries, with the two gantries mirroring one another
in the placement area. The gantries can be equipped with the C&P20 and the recently-developed
CPP head. In conjunction with the optimized software, this results in shorter traversing paths and
thus to higher placement rates.
The SIPLACE X4 placement machine is also equipped with 4 gantries. The TwinStar can also be
fitted in addition to the C&P20 head and CPP head, which will greatly extend the component
range.
The SIPLACE X3 placement machine has 3 gantries, two of which are in placement area 1 with
the other gantry in placement area 2. The SIPLACE X2 placement machine has 2 gantries in total,
with 1 gantry in each placement area 1. The C&P20, the CPP head and the TwinStar can be fitted
on both of these placement machines.
These can be quickly and accurately positioned by linear motors, moving independently of one
another in the X and Y directions.
According to the head modularity principle developed by ASM Assembly Systems, the placement
heads can be quickly and easily changed. An overview of the placement head configurations can
be found in Sections 1.1.1
, 1.1.2, 1.1.3, 1.1.4 and 1.1.5 from page 20.
For the component supply, there are four locations that can be equipped with component trolleys.
Alternatively, one or two matrix tray changers can be docked into the SIPLACE X2, X3 and X4
machines in place of component trolleys.

1.1.1 SIPLACE X4I
The X4I placement machine is equipped with 4 gantries; two gantries for each placement area
(PA). Gantries 2 and 4 are mirrored with respect to gantries 3 and 1.
This allows the following placement head configurations on the X4I placement machine:
a) Placement area 1
b) Placement area 2

1.1.3 SIPLACE X4 LED Placer
The X4 LED placer is equipped with four gantries, two gantries for each placement area (PA). This
allows the following placement head configurations on the X4 LED placer:
a) Placement area 1
b) Placement area 2
