5.5.3.2 Greasing and Cleaning the Y Axis
Greasing and Cleaning the Y Axis
Fill the "Y axis" grease gun with Klüberplex BEM 34-132 (see also "6.1 Filling the Grease Gun"
[➙59]).

Cleaning the Linear Guides of the X Axis
CAUTION
Grease all grease nipples
Remember to grease each visible grease nipple on the Y axis! There are 4 lubrication nip
-
ples for each Y axis, one on each bearing.
Use the amounts of grease specified. Too much or too little grease can damage the bear
-
ing.
Position the grease gun straight onto the lubrication
nipple (1).
Apply one squeeze of the grease gun (0.4 cm³ per
squeeze).
If the grease emerges from the grease nipple, then ei
-
ther the bearing is already full or the grease nipple is
not sealed correctly. In the latter case, use a new
grease nipple.
Move the gantry by approx. 30 cm. This distributes
the grease.
Repeat the pressing and moving process two more
times. The correct amount of grease has then been
applied.
The total amount of grease is (3 x 0.4 cm3 [g] for
each bearing!
Use a cloth to remove any excess grease from on
and around the grease nipple.
Follow the same procedure for the Y axis lubrication
nipple (2) facing towards the inside of the machine.
Repeat the greasing process on all linear guides (2
lubrication nipples per gantry).
CAUTION!
Do not use any chemical cleaning agents!
Do not use additional lubricants. This may reduce the ser
-
vice life of the bearings. The guide rails are greased suffi
-
ciently by the guide carriage.
Clean the linear guides for the X axis thoroughly over
their entire length using lint-free cloths.
Repeat this step for all linear guides.

Repeat this step for all linear guides.
CAUTION!
Always use soft cloths and minimal pressure to clean the
scales.
Dirty scales can lead to counting errors and, as a conse

quence, to machine stoppages.
Clean the incremental scales (1) of the X axes with a
lint-free cloth soaked in ethanol.

Checking the Cooling Air Hoses for the Y Axis
CAUTION
Broken cooling air hoses
If the cooling air hoses are defective, the Y motor could overheat and cut out. Guide carriages
and guides may be damaged as a result.
NOTICE
This maintenance task is only required up to serial number B078.
Loose the screw (1) fastening the cover plates above
the magnetic strip, which is in front of the trailing ca
-
ble.
Remove the cover plates.
Check the cooling air hoses for damage, particularly
in the vicinity of the cooling hose fixings in the trailing
chain. If the cooling air hoses are damaged, replace
them. For removal and installation details, read the
service manual for your machine.
Fit the cover plates again.
Repeat these steps for all cooling air hoses on all
gantries and replace the cooling air hoses where nec
-
essary.
