3 High Components up to 10.7mm on SIPLACE
Revolver Heads
3.1 Overview
Due to the very high demand, to place higher components than 6 or 8.5mm on SIPLACE revolver
heads, a new project within SD EA 1 was started. 3
After the first test, there was clear message that we will have a possibility to place high compon-
ents on the existing revolver heads. The restriction to the existing max. height was give due to the
space under the gantry. That means, that we have enough space inside the heads. The restriction
to 6 or 8.5mm is caused when a high component is already placed on the board and the gantry
has also on the down segment a high component. 3
The goal was to find a solution to get more space under gantry, to expand the space between gan-
try and board top side. Therefore the nozzle was shortened to maximum, that means that the
nozzle was shortened until the seat of the nozzle changer!
As well the segment was shortened by 2mm. With these modification the complete seat is moving
2mm deeper. 3
3.2 Surroundings
3.2.1 Restrictions
Through the testing the following restrictions were found: 3
12 Segment revolverhead: 3
– The maximum component height is 10.7 mm.
– To be able to place this 10.7mm high components, the GF editor has to be manipulated.
– The benchmark performance is about 9% lower.
– The PCB diameter incl. arch is limited to 2,55 mm. Thicker PCBs up to maximum 2,9 mm incl.
arch only on request to SD EA Munich.
– The maximal components size is reduced to 10mm, comparing to 18.7mm
– The segment has to be changed manually by the operator, there is no special message which
tells the operator to change now the segment.
– It is possible to mix standard with short sleeves.
– The 24/32mm feeder has to be lifted by 2mm.

– Due to the placing of component up to 10.7mm, a placement shadow is created around this
high components. The operator has to take care of this shadow during programming this
board.
– Components which are higher than 8.5mm are placed by a special nozzle.
– Because of the special nozzle the automatic nozzle scanning, the nozzle length check are not
activated, as well the vacuum threshold are not checked.
– It is not possible to change the nozzle automatically, that means that the special nozzles are
not able reject in the nozzle changer.
– It is not possible to run inside the same machine 711/911 nozzles. These nozzles will hit the
placed component on the board.
– Due to the restrictions in the optimiser, regarding placement shadow, it not possible to run the
short sleeve in a SMD line with only one SIPLACE module.
– The Dip-Modul cannot be used.
3
The 6 Segment revolverhead: 3
This revolverhead has the same restrictions as the 12 segment head, but additional there are fol-
lowing item to take care of: 3
– The maximum components size is reduced to 30 mm by the reflection plate inside the head.
– It is not possible to run the short sleeve together with the feeder crash plate.
– If there are trays inside the waffle pack changer which are higher than 10mm an they are in the
feeding position, the reference run will stop.
– Because of the different feeder heights contacts with other feeders on the upper side can occur
(e.g. stick magazine feeder).
Therefore a distance to the next feeder should be guaranteed!
3
3.2.2 Software
The short sleeve is able to run on all existing station and line computer software. 3
3.2.3 Hardware
The shortened sleeved can be used on SIPLACE modules S-25 HM, S-27 HM, F5 and F5 HM. 3

3.2.4 Maintenance of the short sleeves
Maintain the short sleeves in the same way like the standard sleeves (see the maintenance ma-
nual of the placement system). 3
3
The short sleeve is very easy to distuingish from the standard one by the red coloured suction
plate. 3
3
3.3 Safety instructions
: Always follow the applicable prevention regulations, particularly EN 60204.
: End all placement operations on the placement system.
: NEVER place your head or arms in the travelling range of the gantries when the station is swit-
ched on.
: Do not modify any safety devices. In particular, do not pass by circuit breakers or remove safety
devices.
3
The sleeves can be changed by using the single function menu, while the placement machine is
switched on. 3

3
: NEVER move the gantry by pushing against the revolver head handle with your hands or by
pulling the handle. The revolver head may loose its settings or may be damaged on account
of the high breaking force of the Y gantry.
: NEVER move the gantry while the z-axis is moved down.
: Take hold of the cast iron part of the x axis and the move the gantry.
