1. Size-Driven Mode
See Section 7.6.5.2 from page 7 - 95 for a definition of the measuring methods.
This measurement mode can be recognized by rotating windows around the edges of the component
Procedure
I. Within the search window profiles are shown in x and y directions. By means of the gradients derived from
these and a geometric filter the approximate position of the component is determined.
II. Windows rotate around the edges of the component. For each window the profile and the gradients are
determined. The sum of the gradients is a measure of the agreement of the window angle with the position
of the component.
If the sum of the gradients reaches a maximum, the angular position of the component has been deter-
mined.
III. Under the angle determined in II the first step (I) is repeated. Now the position of the component can be
determined more exactly on the x and y axes.
Rectangles:
green: x and y location tolerances
orange: Component dimensions and tolerances sent from the station
blue: Search window for position recognition
Comments
1. The position in which the component was found must lie within the green rectangle or the compo-
nent is not mounted.
Applies to all measurement steps!
2. The component must be located inside the orange window or the measurement results should be
questioned.
3. The search windows should have the same alignment as the component and be larger than it.
Lines:
red: Component edges found
Comments:
The red lines are often covered by others and it may not be possible to recognize them.

grey: Profile in the respective direction of integration
blue: Gradients from the above profiles
yellow: Result of the geometric filter
red: Interpolation limits for determining position
light blue: Result of interpolation -> position
Comments:
The interpolation result should be found around the maximum of the geometric filter.
Cross:
white: Result of position recognition -> x, y, angle
Diagram:
Result function of the angle search (rotating windows).
Comments:
The minimum (corresponds to the maximum of the sum of the gradients) gives the non-interpolated
relative position. The final result (through interpolation) is displayed by a light blue line. The accuracy
of the diagram is limited by the resolution of the monitor.
2. Row-Driven Mode
See Section 7.6.5.2 from page 7 - 95 for a definition of the measuring methods.
This measurement mode can be recognized by a number of windows around the middle pins of a row of pins.
Procedure:
I. Position recognition takes place via the formation of profile vertical to the direction of the pins. This is used
to determine the edges of the component.
II. With two additional windows the relative position of the component can be determined.
Rectangles:
green: x and y location tolerances
light blue: A. 2 to 4 search windows for position recognition. These are located around the middle
pins of each pin row.
B. 2 Additional search windows for angle measurement. Both windows lie in the same pin
row.
Star:
orange: Result of the first scan procedure
Comments:
The star indicates the position in the pin direction. Depending on the measurement algorithm used the
middle or the tip of the pin will be displayed.

3. Corner-Driven Mode
See Section 7.6.5.2 from page 7 - 95 for a definition of the measuring methods.
This measurement mode can be recognized by the windows around the entire pin row.
Procedure:
Determine the position in the direction of pins in the light blue window
Determine the position vertically to this in the dark blue window
Calculate the position of each pin group and thus of the component
Rectangles:
light blue: Search window for the position in the direction of pins
dark blue: Search window for the position vertically to this
green: x and y tolerances
Star:
orange: Result Location of the group concerned
Comments:
Depending on the measurement algorithm selected the middle or the tip of the pin group in the direc-
tion of pins will be displayed.

Comments:
The overlay is provided both for the light blue as for the dark blue search windows.
