A8.1 Repair policy
This chapter explains the general repair approach on the machine and the repair
strategy per module.
A8.1.1 Modular machine concept and repair strategy

The modular concept of the machine enables a repair approach that maximizes
uptime. The diagram shows that using spare modules can reduce the on-line repair
time to a minimum. The defective module can be repaired off-line, causing no
further downtime of the machine.
On-line repair
The time that is necessary to repair the machine to enable it to run production
again is called the on-line repair time. This time is responsible for downtime and is
to be minimized. When a machine failure involves one of the machine modules,
using a spare module is a quick way to resume production. When the failing part is
not a part of a spare module, setting diagnose and replacement is all part of on-line
repair.
The spare modules that are recommended to maximize uptime are listed in the
"second level spare parts" list.
Off-line repair
Repairing modules that do not influence machine production, is called off-line
repair. The available spare parts enable the modules to be repaired on-site, without
returning them to Assembléon.

When repairable modules or parts require special tools or knowledge to perform the
repair, a repair channel is defined by Assembléon. Depending on the type of repair
that is provided, the module or part can be exchanged for a refurbished one (repair
option RO) or is returned after being repaired (repair option RC).
A8.1.2 Repair strategy per module
The repair strategy is different per module, depending on it's properties like
modularity, necessary tools, necessary knowledge, costs, etc.
The table below gives an overview of the available repair strategies per module.
Example:
1. The table shows that for the placement head, on-line repair of the machine
involves an exchange of the complete module. This module cannot be repaired
off-line by the customer but only by returning it to Assembléon.
2. The table shows that for the transport controller, on-line repair of the machine
involves an exchange of the complete module. This module can be repaired off-
line by the customer by exchanging spare parts. One of these parts, the
embedded process controller, can be returned to Assembléon for repair.
