Protective cover switches (Item2 in Fig. 2.2 - 5) and other cover switches (Item3 in Fig. 2.2 - 5)2
These switches check whether the protective and other covers are closed. When the covers are
closed, the safety contact is closed and the signalling contact is open. If one of the covers is
opened, the safety circuit opens and the signalling circuit closes. The individual components will
either be activated or deactivated, depending on the position of the key switch (Item 5). 2
Protective contactor combination 3TK2805 (Item 4 in Fig. 2.2 - 5) 2
The protective contactor combination is contained in the power supply unit. It is not activated or
deactivated if safety-related functions fail. 2
Key switch in position "0" (Item 5 in Fig. 2.2 - 5) 2
PLEASE NOTE The key switch remains open, i.e. in position "0" for normal mode. 2
The protective contactor combination (PCC) trips when one of the protective or other covers is
opened. The link voltage (200 V) to the gantry axes is switched off and the link voltage for the star
axes (100 V) is reduced to 6 VDC. All modules are deactivated. 2

The protective covers must only be opened by appropriately qualified and trained personnel
when the key switch is closed (position "I").
The protective contactor combination (PCC) trips when one of the protective or other covers is
opened. The link voltage to the gantries is switched off and the link voltage for the star axes is
reduced to 6 VDC. The star of the placement head can be paced at a lower speed when the cover
is open. The following modules: 2
PCB stopper
lifting table motors and PCB clamping
used tape cutters
are deactivated. 2
Sockets for the component change-over tables (Item 1 in Fig. 2.2 - 6) 2
These sockets are used to supply the necessary voltages and compressed air to the component
changeover tables. The terminals for the safety and signalling circuits are also integrated into
these sockets. This prevents the placement system being started up before the component tables
are docked. If the component table is not connected, the protective contactor combination trips
and deactivates all the modules. 2

Push-button for raising and lowering the component change-over tables (Item 2 in Fig. 2.2 - 6)2
To use this push-button, and thus the drives for the component table, you must first move the
placement head out of the range of the component table and open the flap over the button. After
changing the component table, you must close the flap over the button once more. 2
If the flap is closed, the safety circuit contact will close and the signalling contact will open. The
machine is then ready for use.
If the flap is open, the safety circuit is interrupted and the signalling contact closes. An error
message will appear on screen, prompting you to close the flap. The machine can then be re-
started using the Start buttons.
Uninterruptible power supply (UPS), station computer (Item 3 in Fig. 2.2 - 6) 2
Both the UPS and the station computer are housed beneath the input conveyor. 2
WARNING Always follow the safety instructions concerning potentially lethal volt-
ages - even when the placement system is switched off. 2
2.2.4 Safety circuit and signalling circuit
2.2.4.1 Structure of the safety circuit
The following contacts are connected in series and form the safety circuit loop: 2
make contacts for the four protective cover switches
make contacts for the two PCB conveyor covers
make contacts for the two emergency stop buttons
make contacts for the four component tables
make contacts for the four flaps over the push-buttons for raising and lowering the component
tables
channels 2 and 3 of the protective contactor combination (PCC)
If the safety loop is closed, 24 VDC is present at channels 2 and 3 of the PCC. The two green
LEDs for channels 2 and 3 light up in addition to the green power ON LED. 2
2.2.4.2 Structure of the signalling circuit
The six signalling contacts for the covers are connected in parallel and form the "Cover signal"
circuit. If one or more covers are opened, the contacts close - the 24 V signal reaches the CAN
bus and signals that one of the covers is open. 2

The two signalling contacts for the emergency stop button are connected in parallel and form the
"Emergency stop button signal" circuit. When an emergency stop button is pressed, a 24 V signal
is sent to the CAN bus and signals that one of the emergency stop buttons has been pressed. 2
The four signalling contacts for the push-button flaps are connected in parallel. They form the
"Flaps signal" circuit. If one or more flaps is raised, a 24 V signal is applied to the CAN bus and
signals that one of the cover flaps is not closed. 2
The four signalling contacts for the component tables are connected in series and form the "Com-
ponent table signal" loop. If a component table is missing, a 0 V signal is sent to the CAN bus. If
all the tables are connected, the signal is approximately 16 V. 2
2.2.4.3 Functional description of the safety circuit
The following conditions must be fulfilled before the placement system can be started or oper-
ated:
all four component changeover tables must be docked and connected.
all covers - four over the gantries, one over the PCB input belt and one over the output belt -
must be closed.
both emergency stop buttons must be released
all four flaps over the push-buttons for raising and lowering the component changeover tables
must be closed.
the minimum operating pressure must have been reached.
the software enable must have been given, thus activating the safety circuit.
the power supply must be sending 24 V to the Start buttons and the protective contactor com-
bination.
If one of the Start buttons is now pressed, the protective contactor combination (PCC) will
switch and activate the following components:
200 V link voltage for the servo amplifier for the gantry axes
100 V link voltage for the star axes
230 V operating voltage for the lifting table motors
the servo unit will receive a "Servo enable" signal for the servo amplifier
34 V operating voltage is switched to the component changeover tables
24 V operating voltage is switched to the used tape cutters.
The machine is now ready for service. 2
