2.1 Conventions for the use of safety instructions
14 Instruction Guide ASM ProcessLens 02/2017
2.1.2.1 General
The operational safety of ASM ProcessLens solder paste inspection machine can be guaran-
teed only if the system is used as prescribed and in accordance with the instructions in the
user/preventive maintenance manuals.
Always follow any safety regulations specific to your country.
Make sure that the warning labels are always clearly identifiable and always easily readable.
Replace any damaged warning or notice labels. Replace any labels that are missing.
If it is necessary to work on the machine and you do not have adequately trained personnel
within your operation, always call in an ASM Assembly Systems Singapore Pte ltd. service en-
gineer. ASM Assembly Systems Singapore Pte ltd. will not accept liability for any damage or
consequential damage that is the result of unauthorized/incorrect work.
If particularly hazardous situations are identified while the machine is in use, the machine
owner must immediately notify the manufacturer in writing so that appropriate action can be
taken to reduce the potential danger.
WARNING
Failure to use the system as prescribed
In spite of all the safety precautions taken by the manufacturer, failure to use the system as
prescribed can result in severe physical injury (e.g. from the moving gantry, inspection head
module or lifting table) and/or considerable damage to equipment. For the machine to be
safe, it must be used correctly by qualified personnel and all warnings must be observed.
Some work on the machine (e.g. setting up) requires training that goes beyond the scope of
this manual.
2.1.2.2 Safety of operators and other persons
Machine operators must only carry out work for which they have been adequately trained and
with which they are totally familiar.
NEVER open one of the protective covers if you are not totally familiar with the use and func-
tioning of the machine! Do not open the protective covers during operation unless you are told
to do so in this manual or in the station software dialog.
NEVER place your head or arms in the gantry, inspection head assembly and lifting table trav-
eling range while the machine is switched on!
For your own safety, wear work clothes that conform to the guidelines of the professional
association, i.e. no wide sleeves, etc.
Reduce the risks by not wearing scarves, chains or ties at your work post.
People with long hair must wear a protective head covering.
WARNING
The system is electrically driven. When electrical devices are in use, certain parts
carry dangerous voltage levels
There is a risk of death, severe injury and/or considerable damage to equipment if these
instructions are not followed.
Switch off the main switch and disconnect the ASM ProcessLens solder paste inspec-
tion machine from the power supply before carrying out any work on live components.
Lock the machine as described in section 2.7 "Lock out and tag out procedure" [}39].
2.1.2.3 Safety of plant and equipment
Never make changes, however minor, unless you are totally aware of the effect they will have
on the overall functioning of the system.
The stations must always be set up and maintained by appropriately trained personnel.
Do not make modifications to the safety equipment. In particular, NEVER deactivate circuit-
breakers or remove safety devices.

2.1.3 Safety instructions on permanent magnets
Powerful permanent magnets are used for the linear motors of the gantry and inspection head
assembly.
DANGER
Strong permanent magnet fields
Fatal hazard: persons with active implants (e.g. pacemakers, defibrillators, insulin pumps,
etc.) are at risk from strong permanent magnetic fields inside the machine.
Persons at risk should avoid the immediate vicinity of the machine.
CAUTION
Danger of crushing
Danger of crushing for persons with passive metal implants (e.g. plates, screws).
Do not reach or lean over into the machine when the protective covers are open.
Do not bring any metal objects into the hazard area.
CAUTION
Strong permanent magnet fields
There is a risk that the strong magnetic fields could corrupt data on data media or check
cards.
Keep sensitive data supports away from the permanent magnets.
NOTICE
Electric and Magnetic Fields (EMF) level of the machine
The EMF level maximum value is less than 500 milli gauss inside the machine front (oper-
ator side), rear, left and right.

Please note the following points when working on the permanent magnets:
People with active implants (e.g. heart pacemakers) or other ferromagnetic prostheses are ex-
pressly prohibited from working on or coming near these devices. Always keep a safe dis-
tance from the linear motor.
The powerful magnetic forces of attraction mean that particular caution is needed in the imme-
diate vicinity of the magnet track and of the moving primary part. Never move heavy or wide
objects made of steel or iron manually into the vicinity of the magnet track. The magnetic force
of attraction is not visible, so its effects in the vicinity of the magnet track are generally under-
estimated. The magnetic attraction can start suddenly, and can reach several thousand New-
tons in the vicinity of ferromagnetic objects (made of steel or iron) of similar size to the magnet
track.
Always wear suitable work and protective clothing (e.g. gloves and safety shoes, etc.) when
handling the magnet track.
Only suitably trained ASM SMT Solutions Team engineers may carry out assembly work and
other tasks when replacing the magnet track.
