2.1.4.7 System Database Editor
The system database provides a convenient infrastructure for creating tables and queries, also
enabling you to create SIPLACE Explorer beans. 2
SIPLACE Explorer provides several database components for reading/writing and querying
JDBC-compliant SQL databases. 2
The system database is a special database providing various built-in facilities to greatly simplify
report generation, especially for time-based filtering and presentation. The system database tool
allows you to define and configure this database. 2
NOTE
SIPLACE Explorer 2.0 currently supports MS SQL Server 2000 and MSDE 2000. 2
2.1.4.8 Application Logic
Application Logic is the heart of SIPLACE Explorer. You will use this tool extensively to configure
the information sources and data you want to display on your website. 2
2.1.4.9 Bean Factory Editor
SIPLACE Explorer provides a library of Java beans. These beans are the software components
used to process data for presentation on your website. You can use the Bean Factory to maintain
and inspect these beans. If you want to write simple Java programs, you can also use the Bean
Factory to define your own beans. 2
2.1.4.10 User Manager
In the User Manager, you can specify the users who are given access to SIPLACE Explorer and
their corresponding access privileges. 2
2.1.4.11 Website Builder
You use the Website Builder to create the look and feel of the website in which your real-time and
historical information will be displayed. 2
2.1.4.12 Event Player
You can use the Event Player to simulate events from the factory floor, allowing you to test your
application logic and website. 2

3 Installing SIPLACE Explorer
Please select one of the following installation procedures: 3
SIPLACE Explorer 2.0 (see page 34)
There are three options for installing SIPLACE Explorer V2.0: 3
SIPLACE Explorer V.2.0 Runtime Environment
SIPLACE Explorer V.2.0 Factory Configuration Utility
SIPLACE Explorer V.2.0 Development Environment
WARNING
Do not install "SIPLACE Explorer V.2.0 Runtime Environment" and "SIPLACE Explorer V.2.0
Development Environment" on the same computer. These two options will not run parallel to one
another. Before working with these options in succession, make sure you know the steps for
starting/terminating the respective option and observe these. 3
NOTE
If you install SIPLACE Explorer V.2.0 on the same computer as the previous version of SIPLACE
Explorer, you will be able to use both versions to generate applications and for configuration
purposes. However, both versions can not be run simultaneously to monitor production data.
Since SIPLACE Explorer V.2.0 Runtime Environment is automatically started as a Windows NT
service, you will need to terminate this program before you can monitor production data with the
previous version.
We do not recommend this type of installation! 3
Java 2 SDK 1.4 (see page 28)
Before you install SIPLACE Explorer V2.0, make sure that Java 2 SDK 1.4 has been
installed on your computer. Install Java 2 SDK 1.4 on the same computer as SIPLACE
Explorer V.2.0. 3
Tomcat 5.0 (see page 44)
If you wish to install a configuration with web release, you will also need to install the option
Tomcat 5.0. Tomcat 5.0 is necessary for making websites available with SIPLACE Explorer
V.2.0 Runtime Environment and SIPLACE Explorer V.2.0 Factory Configuration Utility. 3
You do not need to install Tomcat 5.0 on the same computer as SIPLACE Explorer V.2.0.3
