Safety Introduction
Observe the safety instructions in the user manual
DANGER!
Nonobservance of these safety instructions may cause injury to personnel
and damage to the machine!
Please observe the safety instructions in the user manual of the relevant
machine for all work!
.
Conventions for the use of safety instructions
This manual contains notes that must be observed to guarantee your personal
safety and to avoid damage to equipment. These notes are highlighted by warning
triangles and are indicated as follows according to the level of risk:
DANGER!
Definition
For the purposes of this manual, this indicates that fatal or severe injuries or
considerable damage to property will occur if this hazard warning is not ob-
served.
.
WARNING!
Definition
For the purposes of this manual, this indicates that fatal or severe injuries or
considerable damage to equipment may occur if these warning instructions
are not followed.
.
CAUTION!
Definition
For the purposes of this manual, this indicates that minor injuries or damage
to property may occur if this caution is not observed.
.
NOTICE!
Definition
For the purposes of this manual, this note provides information about the
product or indicates a part of the manual that requires particular attention.

u Attaching warning signs:
If a machine can be locked, it must be.
However, there are situations where energy isolating devices cannot accom-
modate locks. In these cases, the energy isolating devices must be tagged to
warn employees that the machine is de-energized for servicing. The tag or
label must be securely fastened, it must be placed in a position visible to all
and it may only be removed by the person who attached it.
u Release of stored energy:
Stored energy in the compressed air supply or electrical energy in electrolytic
capacitors must be released by appropriate means.
After switching off the machine, wait until the voltages and the compressed air
have discharged, so that work can be performed without any risk.
u Testing the lock out:
The lock can be easily tested by pressing the START button.
The following steps must be taken to restore the machine to operation.
u Check the working area. Authorized employees should remove all of their tools
and reinstall all safety features.
u Notify all affected employees.
u Before removing even one lock or tag, inform all workers in the affected area
that the machine is going to be restarted.
u Remove all locks/tags.
Every authorized employee must remove his own lock and shut it away.
u Turn the machine on. Make sure that authorized staff check the equipment in
operation to ensure that repairs were performed correctly
Testing
Service personnel may test circuits by energizing them briefly without suspending
the Lock Out / Tag Out Procedure. This may only be done when no other work is
being performed by any other person on the equipment being tested.
It is extremely important that all remote START switches be tagged with the "Do
Not Operate" tag to prevent inadvertent operation of the equipment during these
periods.
Responsibilities
• It shall be the responsibility of the maintenance and service personnel to make
sure this procedure is adhered to.
• It shall be the responsibility of the maintenance and service personnel's imme-
diate supervisor to instruct his personnel on this procedure.
• It shall be the responsibility of the Safety Officer with assistance from the
Safety Committee, Health Service Department, and the various managers and
vice-presidents to administer the Lock Out / Tag Out Procedure.

Energy state of the machine after switching off at the main power switch
DANGER!
Hazardous voltages in the power supply unit!
The power supply unit houses components (capacitors) that can carry haz-
ardous voltages for about 5 minutes after the machine has been switched off
and the power plug has been unplugged.
Wait at least 5 minutes before your start working on the power supply unit.
Work on the power supply and the contactor safety breaker (CSB) must only
be carried out by service engineers of ASM Assembly Systems GmbH & Co.
KG or by machine owner service engineers who have been trained by ASM.
.
CAUTION!
Loss of data!
To avoid losing data, assess the following criteria before switching off your
automatic placement system (apart from in emergencies):
Has the placement system finished transmitting machine, setup and panel
data?
Has the placement system finished processing the PCB?
Has the placement system completed the run-up phase?
.
Compressed air conditions in the machine after switching off at the main switch
When the system is switched off at the main power switch or if the power supply
fails, the electrically-controlled main valve of the compressed air unit closes. The
pressure will drop to 0 MPa (0 bar) within 5 seconds.
Placement system switched off at the main switch, but still connected
DANGER!
Risk of death by voltages!
Incorrect handling of the placement system can result in death or severe in-
jury or considerable damage to equipment.
The following components still carry potentially lethal voltages on the power
supply even if the main power switch is switched off:
Main power supply cable connection terminals
L1, L2, and L3 of the main switch S1
Service socket X98
Contactor safety breaker (CBS) still carries voltage for 5 minutes after switch-
ing off at the main switch.
The color of all individual wires which still carry potentially lethal voltages
even if the main power switch is switched off is orange.
