Maintenance of options
1. Ionizer
As the ionizer is used for a long time, the discharge needle (electrode) is worn out and deteriorates.
Additionally, the periodic cleaning work is needed to maintain the static elimination effect and ion balance.
c
CATION
The tip of the ionizer discharge needle is sharp and the voltage is applied. The power supply to the ionizer is stopped
by opening the safety cover. However, make sure not to touch the tip of the ionizer discharge needle when
performing maintenance in the machine.

• Normal operation (GOOD): Lit in blue.
• Large ion balance correction amount (+PREC, -PREC): Lit in green.
The contamination of the discharge needle advances. The discharge needle needs to be cleaned.
• Ion balance error (+ERR, -ERR) : Flashes in red.
The discharge needle may be contaminated or deteriorate significantly. The relevant error is also given on the machine side.
n
NOTE
The discharging performance of the ionizer changes depending on the material and shape of board and parts. The
discharge performance is not guaranteed.

Maintenance of options
1.1 Cleaning the ionizer discharge needle (Monthly)
Perform this work monthly or if the LED (+ PREC or - PREC) on the ionizer main unit is lit in green.
e
1
Power off the ionizer.
1. Press the emergency stop button and
open the machine safety cover to stop
the power supply to the ionizer.
2. Check all LED on the ionizer are OFF.
w
WARNING

IMMEDIATELY AFTER TURNING OFF THE POWER. BE AWARE
THAT TOUCHING THE DISCHARGE NEEDLE IMMEDIATELY
AFTER TURNING OFF THE POWER IS HAZARDOUS.
2
Clean the discharge needle.
1.
Remove contaminants from the discharge
needle and sensor tips with a brush or
cotton swab supplied with the ionizer.
2.
If contaminants are difficult to remove,
immerse a cotton swab in a small amount
of IPA, and then wipe off contaminants
and perform the cleaning work.

Maintenance of options
1.2 Replacing the ionizer discharge needle (2 year)
Replace the ionizer discharge needle (KHN-M83P2-00X: Needle/one discharge needle pack) once every 2
years or if the LED (+ERR, - ERR) showing the ion balance error does not go off even after performing the work
steps stated in "1.1 Cleaning the ionizer discharge needle". One ionizer uses 12 discharge needles. Normally,
one ionizer is installed on each of the front and rear of the machine. So, 24 (6 sets) discharge needles are
needed when performing the maintenance work of one machine.
1
Power off the ionizer.
e
1.
Press the emergency stop button and
open the machine safety cover to stop
the power supply to the ionizer.
2. Check all LED on the ionizer are OFF.

IMMEDIATELY AFTER TURNING OFF THE POWER. BE AWARE
THAT TOUCHING THE DISCHARGE NEEDLE IMMEDIATELY

2
Remove the discharge needle.
As shown at right, grasp and squeeze the
holder's opposing claws at two points and
squeeze them toward each other, then
extract discharge needle.

3
Replace the discharge needle.
When installing the new discharge needle,
the notched area on the mounting side must
be aligned with the discharge needle unit's
protruding part. When correctly aligned,
press it in.

(When the charge plate monitor is
installed,) check the static
elimination performance.
1. Turn ON the machine power.
2. Place the charge plate monitor at a
portion around the feeder pickup
position, and then check the static
elimination performance.
n
NOTE
The static elimination performance standard is that the
attenuation measurement time at the feeder pickup
position (a period of time to attenuate an electro static
charge of +1000V to +100V or less) is 15 sec. or less.
If the static elimination performance is not recovered or
if an error occurs on the ionizer side continuously even
after replacing the discharge needle, contact YAMAHA
sales representative.
n
NOTE
For detailed specification of the ionizer, see the
instruction manual established by the ionizer
manufacturer.
