3.9 Feeder modules
The following feeder modules are currently available to provide the machine with the various com-
ponent types:

Linear vibratory feeder, type 3
Bulk case feeder module
Surf tape feeder module for 8 mm, 12 mm and 16 mm
Waffle-pack tray holder
3.9.3 Description
These feeder modules can be used to process all components with the most common package
forms, such as bulk cases, stick magazines and taped components.
The most important feature of the modular component feeding system is its great flexibility. For
example, the conveyor increment can be set on the feeder module. Paper and blister tapes can
be processed with the tape feeder modules. A small range of feeder module types is sufficient to
place a large range of component types.
The position detection system on the feeder modules can precisely determine the component
pick-up position. The position detection is carried out automatically whenever the feeder mod-
ule or component trolley is changed.
The feeder modules can be quickly and easily changed or replaced, even by unskilled personnel.
a) SL = shutterless, that is without any component cover

PLEASE NOTE
Detailed information on the feeder modules can be found in the operating instructions for compo-
nent feeder modules.
3.9.4 Tape material
The possible tape widths range from 8 mm to 88 mm. The tape material is blister or paper. Com-
ponent tapes with a permanently adhesive cover foil (PSA foil) can also be processed. This will
require the "PSA Kit" option.
3.9.5 Tape reel diameter
The tape reel diameter may be up to 19" (483 mm) for all feeder modules. A list of the maximum
tape reel diameters in relation to the PCB conveyor height can be found in Section 3.10.5.1
, page

.
3.9.6 Manual removal of tantalum capacitors that were not picked up by the
operator
To ensure that tantalum capacitors do not cause the tape material to burn when it is cut as a result
of pick-up errors, the user interface has been extended to include the "Remove component from
tape in the event of a pick-up error" option. This option must be enabled in SIPLACE Pro. On the
placement machine, the component that was not picked up is paced forward again until it is ready
for removal from the component tape. The track is deactivated and the operator is sent an error
message to remind him to pick up the tantalum component from the tape.
If an alternative track is available, the machine continues placing. The operator is able to stop the
machine, however, and pick up the tantalum component.
If no alternative track is available and it is not possible to continue placement with other compo-
nents, the machine will stop. At this point, the operator can again remove the tantalum component
and acknowledge the error. Once the operator has restarted the machine, placement is continued
and components are picked up from the track that is now enabled once more.
PLEASE NOTE 3
This software function is also a good idea for high-quality components.
