1 Overview Vision Teach Station User Manual
1.1 Description 12/2012 Edition
98
The vision teach station essentially consists of the following components:
Base module with electronic circuits and component camera (see Fig. 1.0 - 1, page 97)
Mini-tower PC
WINDOWS XP operating system 1
SIPLACE vision image processing software 1
SIPLACE Pro database server 1
Camera interfaces: CAN bus card and camera bus card 1
The possible configurations are described in chapter 3.
1.1 Description
The vision teach station is used to create and test descriptions for package forms for any place-
ment machine and to run component inspections.
The package form descriptions thus created may be stored in the SIPLACE Pro database on the
vision teach station and transferred to the SIPLACE Pro database of the production system. You
also have the option of loading vision measurement contexts from placement machines to the vi-
sion teach station, where they can be analyzed. Only multiple component measurements are not
yet possible on the placement machine.
1.2 Advantages
The major advantage of this offline system is that it is totally independent of the production system,
and no production system resources have to be used for creating and testing package form
descriptions. As a result, there is no loss of productivity due to the description and testing of
package forms. The time taken to introduce new products can also be considerably reduced with
this independent system.

2 Safety instructions
WARNING 2
The safety instructions from the “Operational safety” chapter of the user manual and the service
manual take precedence over these instructions.
The vision teach station is supplied with main power voltage. Consequently parts of these systems
carry dangerous voltages! Incorrect use of the system or contact with voltage-carrying parts can
lead to death or severe injury.
Always follow the applicable accident prevention and DIN/EN regulations.
Always follow any safety regulations specific to your country.
Follow the ESD regulations as described in the operational safety section of the operating in-
structions.
Never make changes, however minor, unless you are totally aware of the effect they will have
on the overall functioning of the system.
The vision teach station must always be set up, retooled and maintained by appropriately trai-
ned personnel.
Only use original spare parts and authorized accessories from ASM Assembly Systems. The
use of other parts will affect safety and may invalidate the liability for any consequential da-
mage.
The vision teach station is only guaranteed to be safe to use if it is used for the intended pur-
pose and if the user manual is followed.
Vision teach station operators must only carry out work for which they have been adequately
trained and with which they are totally familiar.
If particularly hazardous situations are identified while the vision teach station is in use, the ma-
chine owner must immediately notify the manufacturer in writing so that appropriate action can
be taken to reduce the potential danger.
The base module is heavy.
So make sure that you place the module on a stable surface.
Ask a second person to help you carry the base module.
Always make sure that the cameras are firmly bolted to the base module.
