Scannen & Barcodes Dragon Barcode Scanner
28 Software Version Description SIPLACE Setup Center 2.3
6.16 Scannen & Barcodes
6.16.1 Dragon Barcode Scanner
The Setup Center supports the radio-controlled scanner system „Dragon M101“ by Datalogic. This
scanner has a four-line display and supports 1D barcodes only. The scanner has 3 buttons with which
the user can navigate through the menu - similar to using a cell phone. Communication between the
scanner and the Setup Center requires the cradle „OM-Dragon“. This is connected to the Setup Center
PC via the serial port. Each Setup Center GUI supports one cradle. Data transfer between the cradle
and the scanner is at a frequency of 433 MHz. The maximum range between the scanner and the cradle
(without obstructions) is 50 m. Up to 32 scanners can be linked to one cradle. Setup Center supports
simultaneous operation with multiple scanners.
The barcode types supported in standard configuration are:
EAN 8/EAN 13/UPC A/UPC E
Interleaved 2/5
Code 39
Code 128
Code 93
6.16.2 Unique ID Barcodes
Purpose
Setup Center supports unique ID barcodes which have been clearly assigned to a packaging unit.
Unique ID barcodes support the unambiguous storage of packaging unit data in the Setup Center
database. Once the packaging unit information is save in the database, users only need to scan the
unique ID barcode and not the individual barcode fragments. This reduces the amount of work
considerably i.e. makes for easier handling.
Function
Once a unique ID barcode has been scanned in, the other information usually scanned is then completed
by the Setup Center database (provided the packaging unit has already been fully recorded prior to this).
NOTE:
The component names used in SIPLACE Pro must be compatible with the barcode type used
by the customer. (e.g. Code 39 does not permit the characters “_“, although Code 128 does)
NOTE:
Other barcode types can be enabled by the user.

6.16.3 Identical Components Lot (ICL) Barcodes
Purpose
Setup Center supports identical components lot barcodes which have been clearly assigned to a batch.
A single batch may contain multiple packaging units. The individual packaging unit of a batch cannot be
unambiguously identified.
Function
A batch consists of components, delivered onto one or multiple packaging units, with the same
properties, that are either produced in a coherent production process or obtained during a joint order.
If the manufacturer or vendor has provided the batch (not the packaging unit!) with a unique label,
Setup Center will then run in „Identical Component Lot Barcodes“ mode In other words, unique ID
barcodes for packaging units do not exist, only batch labels.
Setup Center does not support all functions for „Identical Components Lot Barcodes“, because the
individual packaging units of the batch are not identifiable and will be removed from the database
during tear down.
6.16.4 Supported Barcode Labels
Purpose
Setup Center enables you to encode multiple component information in the form of one or more
barcodes.
Function
The barcode labels can be configured and edited with the Setup Center Barcode Label Editor.
During component control, the user is asked to scan in the barcode label information as specified in the
Barcode Label Editor.
6.17 Printing
6.17.1 Barcode Label Wizard
Purpose
The Setup Center provides control barcodes for running certain actions. These can then be printed out
from the Barcode Label Wizard. The control barcodes are of type „Code 39“.
Function
Online setup control Prints a label with the actions „Table Check“and „Refill“ for each station location
on a line. Furthermore the track ruler for the WPC can be printout.
Component search Prints a „Component search “label for each station on a line.
User Prints user identifications.
Changeover tables Device identification for changeover tables
Machine IDs Device Identification for machines of the S-, F-, HS- and HF-Series
Shift change verification Control barcode for start of shift change verification on a line
6.17.2 Printing Setup Reports
Purpose
Setup Center supports the printout of setup reports.
Function
Setup Center can be used to print reports for all setups from SIPLACE Pro. The setup lists for upgrade
of the changeover tables are usually applied in the pre-setup area.

6.17.3 Quantity Correction Labels
Purpose
Setup Center supports the printout of current packaging unit quantities before tearing down.
Function:
Quantity correction labels are useful in the mode „identical component lots“. When tearing down
packaging units in this mode, the quantity data is lost. Quantity correction labels help you to record this
information. When performing tearing down (via GUI or scanner), these quantity correction labels can be
printed individually for each packaging unit, for feeders, tables and the whole setup.
6.17.4 Label Printer
Purpose
Setup Center supports a label printer.
Function
Control barcodes and quantity correction labels can be printed out with the supported label printer. Label
templates can be configured (via configuration file), so that a wide variety of label types are supported.
The following templates are preconfigured:
Avery 5163 (label with 2 columns, 4 rows)
Avery 5263 (label with 2 columns, 4 rows)
Avery J8165 (label with 2 columns, 4 rows)
Zweckform 3660 (label with 2 columns, 4 rows)
Dymo 99014 (label for Dymo LabelWriter)
Label 80 X 15 mm (label suitable for quantity correction barcode)
6.18 Tools
6.18.1 SIPLACE Setup Center Error Reporting Tool
Purpose
The Error Reporting Tool allows the user to automatically gather information about possible errors in
Setup Center and to transmit these to Siemens AG.
Function
The user can generate the error report with the SIPLACE Setup Center Error Reporting Tool. You can
start the tool from the Windows program menu or directly in Setup Center from the ‚Help’ menu. Once
the program has been started, all necessary information is gathered automatically and ready for
transmission to Siemens. (See Appendix).
