1.2 Software Installation
1.2.1 General
NOTE
Prerequisite for the installation of the line computer software is that the SCO OpenServer 5.0.4 operating
system has been properly installed.
The installation of the operating system is performed at Siemens, PL EA V 1.
The installation of the LC software is performed using a CD-ROM. The number of entries to be made during
the installation procedure depends upon the fact whether an initial installation or the installation of a new version
of the LC software is being performed or whether the computer is equipped with a second LAN card (see Note,
page 1 - 12).
NOTE
When loading a new version of the LC software, the master data existing on the line computer are retained.
This shortens the installation procedure as entries concerning the stations can be dispensed with.
The following devices are required for the installation of the LC software:
- Boot disk for Pentium-based computer PCD5H item no. 00342137-01
(Pentium 90 - 133 MHz)
or
- Boot disk for Pentium-based computer M5 / M6 / M7 item no. 00342139-01
(Pentium >
166 MHz)
- Installation diskette item no. 00342141-01
- CD-ROM with LC Software Version 501.xx item no. 00342136-01

1.2.2 Definition of Terms
- Initial Installation
Prior to the start of the installation of the LC software, the computer must be in a neutral state, i.e. the
SCO OpenServer 5.0.4 operating system has been installed, but no further data exist on the hard disk
yet. This basic state exists when the unit is delivered.
When the LC software is then installed with the aid of the installation program, also the sample master
data are installed on the hard disk.
- Update
When the only difference between the new LC software and the one already installed is their revision
level, (e.g. LRU.404.03 => LRU.404.04) this is referred to as an update. Any errors that may have
occurred in the predecessor version have been eliminated in the update version, and the software has
been optimized. In the case of an update, the master data are retained.
- Upgrade
When the new software differs from the one already installed in that their version designations are
different, (e.g. LRU.404.06 => LRU.501.01) this is referred to as an upgrade. An upgrade version con-
tains new functions. In the case of an upgrade, the master data are retained and, if required, automati-
cally converted into the new data format.
1.2.3 Installation of LC Software
● Insert the Boot Diskette (1).
ATTENTION !
Be sure to use only the boot diskette appropriate for your specific computer type (see section 1.2.1).
● Turn on the UPS.
● Press RETURN when the line "Boot:" is displayed on the screen.
The line computer is now booted from the diskette.
After approx. 1 minute the following message is displayed on the screen:
Insert installdisk and press <Return> to continue
or remove the bootdisk and press <Return> to quit (ignore Warnings)
NOTE
When this message is displayed, the installation procedure can still be stopped by removing the boot
diskette and subsequently pressing the RETURN key. The error messages subsequently displayed
can be ignored. The state of the LC software is unchanged.
● Remove Boot Diskette, insert Installation Diskette (2) and press RETURN.
