14 Control / Control Modules
14.1 Introduction
The basic function of the line computer’s control system is the distribution of jobs from the user or a higher-level
CAX system to the individual stations of the line. The control organizes over the entire line the data supply of
the stations to enable processing of the jobs.
Jobs comprise a number of PCBs which are passed through the line by the control system. Jobs are deemed
to be processed when all PCBs have been passed through the line.
14.1.1 Functions of the Individual Control Modules
- Job Control
Jobs are entered and edited by the operator.
A job list is generated by the Job Control. This list is stored in the lot file and managed by the Job
Control.
A higher-level CAX system may be an additional source of jobs.
A check takes place in the Job Control as to whether the product data for a given job are available
and whether the respective job can be carried out on a given line using the current setup. If these
requirements are met, the job can be passed on to the station controllers.
Completed jobs are reported back to the Job Control.
- Line Control
It is designed for control of the line by the operator.
The operator can start and stop the line, block or enable the input conveyor, enter the conveyor width,
reset the entire line to the initial state (Reset), determine barcode and production strategies.
- Station Controllers
Station controllers are interface programs provided between the job control and the individual stations
of a line. They provide the different stations with machine data, setup data and placement data and
monitor the sequence of operations on the stations. The data are transferred to the stations by the
DNC system via an IEC bus.
The user interfaces of the individual station controllers provide the user with information on the status
of the individual stations. Information on the operating mode, the current job and the PCB currently
processed, the station configuration and station messages are displayed.
- Set-Up Modification Generator
The set-up modification generator serves to output setups or change-over instructions on the screen
or printer. The associated setup data are held in the master data files. The physical change-over ope-
rations of a single or all stations are then carried out by the operator.
