WARNING 2
The system is electrically driven. When electrical devices are in use, certain parts carry dangerous
voltage levels.
Switch off at the main switch and disconnect the placement system from the power supply
before carrying out any work on live components.
Lock the machine as described in section 2.12, page 111.
There is a risk of death, severe injury and/or considerable damage to equipment if these instruc-
tions are not followed.
2.1.5.3 Safety of Plant and Equipment
Never make changes, however minor, unless you are totally aware of the effect they will have
on the overall functioning of the system.
The stations must always be set up, retooled and maintained by appropriately trained person-
nel.
Use only original spare parts and accessories authorized by the ASM Assembly Systems
GmbH & Co.KG. The use of other parts will affect safety and will invalidate the liability for any
consequential damage.
Do not make modifications to the safety equipment. In particular, NEVER deactivate circuit-
breakers or remove safety devices.
2.1.6 Safety Instructions for Laser Units
Permission to operate components that are classified as lasers is withdrawn if
– mechanical damage to the unit is observed, or
– any work is done on the mechanical or electrical parts of the unit. Even damaged or miss-
ing screw locking paint on laser components (e.g. cover plates, fasteners, adjusting po-
tentiometer) counts as work.
– Only service technicians of the operating company trained by the ASM Assembly Sys-
tems GmbH & Co.KG or ASM may change laser compnents.
– Repairs at the laser sub assemblies are only carried out in the factory at ASM.

2.1.7 Safety Instructions on Permanent Magnets
Powerful permanent magnets are used for the linear motors of the X and Y axes.
DANGER OF DEATH
POWERFUL PERMANENT magnetic track FIELDS INSIDE THE MACHINE 2
The life of persons with passive or active implants such as pacemakers, defibrillators, insulin
pumps etc. is put at risk inside the machine if protective covers are opened.
At-risk people must not stand in the immediate vicinity of the machine.
WARNING
DANGER OF CRUSHING 2
There is a danger of crushing for persons with passive metal implants (e.g. plates, screws).
Never reach into the machine when the protective covers are open and do not bend over the
open machine.
Do not bring any metal objects into the danger area.
CAUTION
POWERFUL PERMANENT MAGNETIC FIELDS 2
There is a risk that the powerful magnetic fields could corrupt data on data media or credit cards
and check cards.

Please note the following points when working on the permanent magnets:
People with active implants (e.g. heart pacemakers) or other ferromagnetic prostheses are
expressly prohibited from working on or coming near these devices. Always keep a safe dis-
tance from the linear motor.
The powerful magnetic forces of attraction mean that particular caution is needed in the im-
mediate vicinity of the magnet track and of the moving primary part. Never move heavy or
wide objects made of steel or iron manually into the vicinity of the magnet track. The magnetic
force of attraction is not visible, so its effects in the vicinity of the magnet track are generally
underestimated. The magnetic attraction can start suddenly, and can reach several thousand
Newtons in the vicinity of ferromagnetic objects (made of steel or iron) of similar size to the
magnet track.
Always wear suitable work and protective clothing (e.g. gloves and safety shoes, etc.) when
handling the magnet track.
