3M
EMI/ESD Diagnostics Kit
EMI can cause serious problems for sensitive equipment and processes,
such as equipment malfunction, latch-ups and software-related errors.
Even very weak ESD events can create disaster for manufacturers of
sensitive components such as disk drives, semiconductors, or flat panel
displays. Identification of these EMI sources is possible with a series of
instruments from 3M.
The 3M EMI/ESD Diagnostics Kit will help you perform waveform and
spectral analysis of electro magnetic interference and of emission
from electrostatic discharges. The kit includes a set of miniature active
broadband antennae for radiated and conducted emission, an interface
module and a set of RF cables. Simply connect the output of an active
antenna to your high-speed oscilloscope and observe or measure ESD
events as they occur. For complete EMI analysis, use the antenna with
your spectrum analyzer to capture the spectral content of emission.
Active miniature antenna work in a broad frequency range, offer high
sensitivity and are able to measure radiated and conducted emission in
various environments.
Features
• Flat frequency response over a very broad range provides precise signals.
• Miniature antenna allows for use in tight spaces.
• Built-in preamp virtually eliminates the need for additional amplification.
Antenna included in the EMI/ESD Diagnostics Kit provides measurements
of both radiated (via air) and conducted (via cables) emission.

Interface Module
The interface module contains everything you need to connect your
miniature active antennae to an oscilloscope or to a spectrum analyzer.
3M Interface Module CTA225 works with all our active antennae,
providing them with power via the same RF coax cable used for signal
by utilizing a special phantom supply circuit.
CTA225 has two channels and allows any two antennae to be used
simultaneously. CTA225 contains a rechargeable battery that will provide
hours of operation without the need for an external power supply and with
full isolation from noisy power lines. A universal supply charger is included.

Charge Analyzer/Charge
Plate Monitor
The 3M Charge Analyzer 711 was designed to test the performance
of products used for the purpose of static control and elimination.
The Charge Analyzer 711 can be used as a laboratory analytical tool,
evaluating the performance of ionizing equipment, static-protective
packaging, work surfaces, and personnel grounding systems. It is very
effective for use as a demonstration tool in employee static awareness
training sessions.
The lightweight and compact construction of the unit offers versatility in
the workplace. The modular internal construction simplifies modifications
and repair by exchange of the functional printed circuit boards. All
parameter settings are controlled via a built-in EEPROM. Periodic
calibrations can be performed without the need to open the chassis.
When the analyzer is switched off, all last set parameters are stored
in the EEPROM. These parameters are defaulted to when the unit is
switched on again. The analyzer 711 is powered by built-in rechargeable
NiMH-batteries or an AC wall plug-in adapter. All interfacing connections
are made at the rear of the unit.
