CAUTION: Risk of injury from compressed air!
Risk of injury when disconnecting the compressed air lines.
X NEVER detach compressed air lines while they are still pressurized.
CAUTION: Prolonged interruptions to the compressed air supply can cause damage.
When the machine is switched on, do not use the stop valve to interrupt the compressed air
supply for more than 30 minutes.
X If you need to shut off the compressed air system for longer, in order to carry out maintenance
or servicing work, you must switch the machine off at the main switch and disconnect it from
the power supply.
WARNING: Risk of injury when working near the cutter.
If you wish to work on the tape cutter, disconnect the machine from the mains supply and
compressed air supply.
X Wait until the operating pressure has dropped to 0 MPa.
X Always secure the machine against unauthorized reactivation.
X Wear appropriately thick protective gloves when working near the blades and the tape
deflector!
X There is a high risk of injury from stationary blades and moveable blades and from the tape
deflector of the cutter, even when the machine has been turned off!
X Never reach into the pneumatic cutter from below or into the empty-tape duct from above, not
even to resolve a problem (e.g. when tape is jammed).
CAUTION: Risk of injury when performing service work on the cutter.
Never support the cutter on your body, e.g., on your knees or thighs. Do not place your feet
under the cutter.
X Wear appropriately thick protective gloves.
X When removing/fitting the cutter, hold it only on the left and right, on the outside.
X Make sure that no one can injure themselves on the cutter after it has been dismantled!
CAUTION: Moving the gantry can damage the placement head.
When moving the gantry, observe the following:
X NEVER move the gantry by pushing with your hands against the placement head.
X NEVER push the gantry while the Z axis is lowered.
X ALWAYS take hold of the X axis base with your hands to move the gantry.

4.2 Preparatory Work...
Purpose and scope
Before performing any preventive maintenance work or service work, a procedure of locking and tagging
must be followed and warning signs must be attached. The procedure, when followed correctly,
eliminates the possibility of an employee being injured.
Description
Whenever it becomes necessary to isolate, control and release energy, the following procedure is to be
followed.
X Notify affected employees.
X Switch off the machine and all additional devices. Carry out all normal stopping procedures:
Press the Stop button.
Shut down the station computer.
Switch the machine off at the main switch.
X Isolate the machine from all its energy sources:
Shut off the compressed air supply
Shut off the main power supply
X Lock out the machine.
Attach a lock whenever possible, e.g. to the motor contactor.
NOTE:
These procedures represent the minimum lock/tag out requirements during preventive
maintenance work and service work. Any additional safeguards needed to complete work safely
can be specified by facilities supervision, the safety officer, the safety committee and the health
department.
X Turn the operating lever (1) counterclockwise.
X Use the screwdriver to push the locking lug (2)
out of the operating lever (1).
X Secure the operating lever with a padlock (3).

X Alternative: Attaching warning signs
If a machine can be locked, it must be. However, there are situations where energy isolating devices
cannot accommodate locks. In these cases, the energy isolating devices must be tagged to warn
employees that the machine is de-energized for servicing. The tag or label must be securely
fastened, it must be placed in a position visible to all and it may only be removed by the person who
attached it.
X Release of stored energy
Stored energy in the compressed air supply or electrical energy in electrolytic capacitors must be
released by appropriate means.
After switching off the placement machine wait until the voltages and the compressed air have
discharged, to be able work without any risk.
X Testing the lock out.
Testing the lock out can be done simply by pressing the start button.
X The following steps must be taken to restore the machine to operation.
X Check the area. Authorized employees should remove all of their tools and reinstall all guards.
X Notify all affected employees.
X Before removing even one lock or tag, inform all workers in the area that the machine is going to be
restarted.
X Remove locks/tags
X Every authorized employee has to remove his own lock and shut it away.
X Turn the machine on. Authorized workers should observe the equipment in operation to insure
repairs were done correctly.
Testing
Service personnel may test the circuits by energizing the circuit for a short period of time without voiding
the lock out procedure provided. This may be done only when no other work is being performed by any
other person on the equipment being tested.
It is extremely important that all remote start switches be tagged with the "Do Not Operate" tag to prevent
inadvertent operation of the equipment during these periods.
Responsibilities
It shall be the responsibility of the maintenance and service personnel to make sure this procedure
is adhered to.
It shall be the responsibility of the maintenance and service personnel's immediate supervisor to
instruct his personnel on this procedure.
It shall be the responsibility of the Safety Officer with assistance from the Safety Committee, Health
Service Department, and the various managers and vice-presidents to administer the Lock Out / Tag
Out Procedure.
