8.1 Nozzle Changers
Nozzle changers can greatly increase the flexibility of the placement heads for processing differ-
ent types of component. If the placement program requires a nozzle change, then the placement
head automatically returns the old nozzle to the nozzle holder and picks up the new nozzle. Noz-
zles that were separated out during the vacuum check can also be quickly changed.
It is significantly more exact and faster to pick up nozzles from a nozzle changer than would be
possible manually. When placing small components, it is essential to minimize the radial eccen-
tricity during nozzle rotation.
8.1.1 Configurations Options for Nozzle Changers at the SWS
Depending on the placement head used a second row of nozzle changers can be configured as
an option.
The main difference between the nozzle changers at an SWS and those at locations without SWS
lies in the usage of a different reject bin (03070917-01). The nozzle changers for the SWS are
structured alike, the only difference is the mirror-inversed position of the reject bins at the left-hand
locations (1 and 3) and the right-hand locations (2 and 4).

8.1.2 Nozzle Changers for the SIPLACE SpeedStar (C&P20 M)

Fig. 8.1 - 3 Nozzle changers for the SIPLACE SpeedStar (C&P20 M)
This nozzle changer can hold up to 6 magazines, each with 12 nozzle holders. The magazines
are seated on a common support. They are centered with two parallel pins and fixed in place with
4 snap fasteners.
The correct seat of the magazines on the basic nozzle changer body is monitored by micros-
witches, to prevent a collision of the placement head with any magazines projecting upwards. All
magazine locations must be filled since the safety circuit stops the machine in response to missing
magazines or magazines that are not seated correctly.
8.1.2.1 Position of the Nozzle Changers for the C&P20 Head on the CA4 Machine
The locations 1, 2, 3 and 4 can accommodate up to 2 nozzle changers for the SIPLACE SpeedStar
(C&P20 M) (item 1 and 2 in fig. 8.1 - 4
). This gives a total capacity of 8 nozzle changers with 48
magazines and a total of 576 nozzle holders.
