2.1.2 Qualified personnel
Qualified or adequately trained personnel means that these people are familiar with the setting up,
operation and preventive maintenance of placement machines and add-on devices and are suit-
ably qualified, e.g.
– have been trained, instructed or authorized to switch on and off, isolate, earth and identify
electrical circuits and system components in accordance with normal safety standards.
– have been trained or instructed in the upkeep and use of appropriate safety equipment in ac-
cordance with normal safety standards.
2.1.3 Important notes on operational safety
The following points MUST be observed in order to maintain operational safety:
2.1.3.1 General
The operational safety of SIPLACE placement machines can only be guaranteed if the place-
ment machine is used as prescribed and in accordance with the instructions in the user/pre-
ventive maintenance manuals (job cards).
Always follow any safety regulations specific to your country.
Make sure that the warning labels are always clearly identifiable and always easily readable.
Replace any damaged warning or notice labels. Replace any labels that are missing.
The placement machine key for releasing the covers on the placement machine must be kept
in a safe place where it is only accessible to qualified personnel!
2
If it is necessary to work on the machine and you do not have adequately trained personnel
within your operation, always call in a ASM Assembly Systems GmbH&Co.KG service engi-
neer! ASM Assembly Systems GmbH&Co.KG will not accept liability for any damage or con-
sequential damage that is the result of unauthorized/incorrect work.
If particularly hazardous situations are identified while the placement machine is in use, the
placement machine operating company must immediately notify the manufacturer in writing
so that appropriate action can be taken to reduce the potential danger.
PLEASE NOTE
Owner's responsibility
The placement machine operating company, and only this operating company, is respon-
sible for the safekeeping of the placement machine key and for ensuring that it is handed
over to authorized persons.

2.1.3.2 Safety of operators and other persons
Placement machine operators must only carry out work for which they have been adequately
trained and with which they are totally familiar.
NEVER open one of the protective covers if you are not totally familiar with the use and func-
tioning of the placement machine! Do not open the protective covers during operation unless
you are told to do so in this manual or in the station software dialog.
The placement machine may only be operated if there is a component trolley present and
docked at each location.
For your own safety, wear work clothes that conform to the guidelines of the professional as-
sociation or to the regulations of your country, i.e. safety shoes, hair net or no wide sleeves
etc.
Reduce the risks by not wearing scarves, chains or ties at your work post.
People with long hair must wear a protective head covering.
The placement machine may not come into contact with splashed or sprayed water or other
liquids. Cleaning with wet cloths is also prohibited.
In the event of errors, high temperatures could occur at the housings of all motors.
The Z axis of the placement heads is also live with 42 V when the protective cover is open. For
this reason, avoid any work to the Z axis (e.g. manual changing of nozzles). There is a risk of
injuries being caused.
WARNING
Severe injuries and damage to equipment in the case of incorrect usage!
In the event of the placement machine being incorrectly used, movement of the gantries
or lifting tables, for example, could lead to severe injuries and considerable damage to
equipment.
Safe operation of the placement machine requires correct usage by qualified staff with
observance of all warnings.
Some work on the placement machine (e.g. setting up) requires training that goes be-
yond the scope of this manual.

2.1.3.3 Safety of plant and equipment
Never make changes, however minor, unless you are totally aware of the effect they will have
on the overall functioning of the system.
The stations must always be set up, retooled and maintained by appropriately trained person-
nel.
Do not make modifications to the safety equipment. In particular, NEVER deactivate circuit-
breakers or remove safety devices.
2.1.4 Safety instructions for laser units
Permission to operate components that are classified as lasers is withdrawn if
– Mechanical damage to the unit is observed, or
– The assembly mechanics, lenses or electrics have been manipulated. Even damaged or
missing screw locking paint on laser components (e.g. cover plates, fasteners, adjusting
potentiometer) counts as work.
– Only ASM Assembly Systems GmbH&Co.KG service engineers or the machine owner's
service engineers, who have been trained by ASM, may replace laser components.
– Repairs to laser assemblies may only be performed by ASM Assembly Systems
GmbH&Co.KG at their factory.
WARNING
Dangerous voltage levels!
The placement machine is powered by electricity. Certain parts are still live when the
main power switch is off and the mains plug has been disconnected. Switch off the main
switch, secure to prevent switching on, disconnect the mains plug and wait for 5 minutes.
There is a risk of death, severe injury and/or considerable damage to equipment if these
instructions are not followed.
Switch off at the main switch and disconnect the placement machine from the power
supply before carrying out any work on live components.
Test to check that there is no remaining voltage supply. See the procedure described
in the service manual.
Lock the placement machine as described in section 2.8, page 89.
