4.8.3.5 Checking, Cleaning and Greasing the Sleeves
CAUTION
Laboratory gloves
Do not hold the sleeves in your bare hands. Wear protective gloves when performing
maintenance tasks to the sleeve. This helps to avoid unnecessary contamination of the
glass or friction wheel. This contamination could lead to malfunctions (counting errors or
overswing).
NOTICE
Sleeves
We recommend that you have a cleaned set of sleeves ready, in case you need to replace
contaminated ones.
(1) Pull the sleeve out of the head.
(2) Place the sleeves in the vessel provided.
Turn the star on to the next segment.
Repeat these steps for all segments, until all sleeves
have been removed.
Insert the cleaned sleeves into the segments. Use a
very gentle pressure to engage the sleeves to avoid
damaging the retaining springs.
Check the foil for damage.
If the foil is damaged, send the sleeve to the
SIPLACE Sleeve Maintenance team.

(1) Spray a little Teflon grease into a suitable vessel.
(2) Moisten the cottonwool bud with Teflon grease.
CAUTION! Do not spray Teflon grease directly
onto the cottonwool buds with the spray can. Using a
separate vessel helps to avoid excess application and
consequential damage to the placement head!
Always use ethanol for cleaning. Do not use white spirit,
otherwise streaks will form on the incremental disk!
Do not use silicon-soluble cleaning agents.
(3) Run the dampened cottonwool bud along the
groove of the anti-rotation element.
(1) Check that the switching ring moves easily in the
sleeve. The unit that is moved as a result must not
stick or grate. However, if still does stick or grate,
despite greasing, send the sleeve to the SIPLACE
Sleeve Maintenance team.
Repeat these steps for all sleeves.
Remove the dirt from the longitudinal vacuum hole by
turning the 1.4 mm drill bit clockwise in the hole.
Turning the bit will remove the dirt from the hole.
Use the same procedure to remove the dirt from the
transverse vacuum hole using the 1.1 mm drill bit.
