CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION
GENERAL
To prevent damage to the machine whilst unpacking or during machine power
up it is essential to read and adhere to the procedures and sequences detailed
in the Installation Manual and to ensure the correct method of unpacking and
assembly of the machine, machine preparation and power up sequences are
carried out prior to the normal running operations of the machine.
Authorized
Personnel
Only DEK authorized personnel may carry out the procedure detailed in this
document.
Chapter 2 Safety Features, describes the features on the machine that provide operator
safety whilst the machine is in operation.
Chapter 3 Services Required, describes the services needed for the machine to function
correctly. A view of the service panel showing the external connections to the
services and positioning of the circuit breakers is also shown.
Chapter 4 Unpacking Instructions, describes the method of dismantling and unpacking the
transit boxes, checking the machine, loose items and documentation. Checking
the machine configuration against customer requirements, assembling the
loose items to the machine and transportation of the machine to its designated
area.
Chapter 5 Machine Preparation, describes the method of transporting the machine into
position, removal of transit brackets, fitting the external services, adjusting the
height and levelling the machine in preparation for machine power up.
Chapter 6 Power Up Sequence, describes the sequence of machine power up and
checking of home sensor positions, system calibrations and settings, and new
product setup using a test board.
Chapter 7 Machine Performance, details the method of checking the machine perform-
ance with the customers board for alignment.
Chapter 8 Installation Documentation, describes the installation and acceptance docu-
mentation that accompanies the machine.

Installation
Procedure
The procedures in this manual must be adhered to in the order that they are
presented.
On installation, the machine must meet the required specification of perform-
ance. All installation and machine performance data must be returned to DEK.
Anti-Static
Handling
Standard precautions must be adhered to when handling, configuring and
installing all electronic cards.
Anti-static precautions are necessary when connecting and disconnecting the
signal cables from the machine PC to the machine controller enclosures.
Delivery
Questionnaire
After the installation has been completed, the installing engineer should make
the customer aware of the Delivery Questionnaire.
Machine
Relocation
In the event of machine relocation, refer to the Technical Reference Manual,

CHAPTER 2 SAFETY FEATURES
MACHINE SAFETY FEATURES
Introduction This chapter describes the various safety features that are incorporated into the
machine to provide a safe operating and maintenance environment, the Elec-
trostatic Discharge (ESD) precautions to be taken during SSD handling and the
Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) standards that are designed into the
machine.
Warning and
Caution Notices
Black-on-Yellow WARNING, CAUTION and DANGER labels are placed on the
printing machine and notices are posted throughout the associated documen-
tation to alert the operator/maintainer to possible hazards which may cause
physical injury or equipment damage.
WARNING notices draw the attention of operators/maintainers to possible
general or functional hazards which may cause loss of life, serious injury or ill
health. These hazards are either inherent in the machine or arise during the
operation/implementation of procedures.
CAUTION notices alert personnel to the possibility of damage occurring to the
machine material which is likely to arise following the departure from laid-down
procedures. A caution notice does not imply danger to personnel.
An example of the format for each notice is shown below :
CAUTION
ANTI-STATIC HANDLING.
Standard precautions must be adhered to when
handling electronic cards and configuring and inserting into the enclo-
sures.
WARNING
LETHAL VOLTAGE. DANGEROUS VOLTAGES EXIST IN THIS EQUIPMENT.
ENSURE ALL ELECTRONIC COVERS AND MAIN MACHINE COVERS ARE
FITTED BEFORE OPERATING THIS EQUIPMENT.
General DEK printing machines incorporate safety features that provide a safe operating
environment for the operator and the machine.
E Stops The machine is fitted with two emergency shutdown press-buttons (E Stops),
one located on the front right of the machine and one located on the left side
above the rails. Operation of either E Stop initiates suspension of machine
operation.
Covers The front printhead cover is fitted with a cam safety switch to protect personnel
from moving equipment.
A metal side safety cover is fitted to the machine side to protect personnel from
inadvertent access to the machine around the board entry/exit area.
