2 Scope of Delivery
This document describes the manual procedure to install Microsoft ® SQL Server 2016 Standard
Edition with default settings for usage of ASM software products on ASM computer systems.
Further customization settings (e.g. modification of database settings) will be done by the specific
product installation setups. Subject of this document is a first-time installation on fresh systems (no
upgrade).

3 Requirements
This installation manual assumes:
– Basic knowledge in administration of Windows-based computers
– Administrative permissions on the computer
– Access to the Setup package of SQL Server 2016 Standard Edition online
(see http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/
)
– A 64-bit operating system
NOTICE
Installation of SQL 2016 requires at least Windows 8.1 (x64), Windows 8.1 (64-bit) or
Windows Server 2012 R2. Previous operating systems are not supported anymore!

4 Installation
4.1 SQL Server 2016 Prerequisites on Windows 8.1 and Windows
Server 2012 R2
In order to install SQL 2016 on Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2, there are some patches
required to be installed before.
The following two patches need to be installed:
– KB2939087 – download link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2939087
– KB2975061 – download link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2975061
After that, you will have to install a set of patches in a certain order.
► Please follow the following link, download all patches and consider installing the updates in the
order as mentioned in the section "Install Instructions".
