2.1 Overview

The PSA kit is an option for feeders with a track width of 8 -16 mm. It prevents cover foil with sticky

edges building up in the foil packing unit after the backing material is pulled off with the result that

no more components can be advanced due to the jammed foil. 2

The cover foil is pulled off at the feeder pick-up position by two meshing gear wheels that are

driven in opposite directions. These wheels pull the cover foil off and carry it through the foil chan-

nel and into the foil connecting container. With PSA foils (Pressure-Sensitive Adhesive - very

sticky edges), the pulled-off foil can stick to the little wheels, block the foil return channel with the

result that the foil take-off eventually stops working. The PSA kit option is available for feeder

widths 8, 12 and 16 mm. With the wider type of feeder, this effect does not occur since the pro-

portion of sticky surface in relation to the entire tape width is too small. 2

The PSA kit causes the sticky edges of the cover foil to be folded in and pressed onto the other,

non-sticky part of the foil, before they reach the wheels. 2
