Fig. 8 - 2 Installing Samba - choice dialog box
- If there is already an older version of »Samba« installed, the old version will be saved and the
actual version will be installed 8
- If the installation would overwrite the same or a newer version, you will be asked for confirma-
tion. You have to enter »y« to proceed with the installation 8
- After the update from an older »Samba« installation, you will be asked whether you prefer to
work with former »Samba« configuration file or want to install the standard TSC configuration file.8
Do you prefer to use the config file of the formerSAMBA installation (y/n) [y] ? 8
- Enter »y« to preserve your former settings (e.g. information about shared directory, defined by
yourself). 8
Step 3
After the installation of the software, you will be asked for the »Samba« password for user »plr«.8
Please enter the new SAMBA password for user 'plr'
New SMB password: 8
Warning
Beware that everybody connected to the customer network can potentially access the shares on
the line computer if he/she knows the »Samba« password. The »Samba« password is for remote
access for user »plr« on the SAMBA SERVER, which runs on the line computer. It may differ from
the password of the UNIX/Linux user »plr«. 8

8.2.3 Line Computer with Operating System SuSE Linux 7.3
The installation media (disk, CD-ROM) for installing »Samba« on SCO 5.0.x may also be used
with operating system SuSE Linux 7.3! 8
Using the disk version of »Samba« on the operating system SuSE Linux 7.3, you don’t install any
new software but only activate the preinstalled »Samba« version 2.2.1a and define the user »plr«8
Using the CD-ROM, also on the operating system SuSE Linux 7.3, the latest released »Samba«
version (2.2.8a) will be installed. 8
The installation process is basically the same as described above in 8.2.2 Line Computer with Op-
erating System UNIX SCO 5.0.x. 8
