4.3 Installing the machine controller M54 (CS, CF, S23, F5 HM)
4.3.1 BIOS Setup
When taking the M54 into service for the first time, the BIOS parameters must be set for the relevant
machine. A configuration file is used in order to automatically modify the data.
The program starts automatically after booting and does not require user input. This resets the
default settings of the BIOS. Thus the configuration remains available even in the event of faults.
After successful installation, the power supply of the control unit should be switched off and then
back on again. The only settings the user will need to make manually in the Setup are the date and
time. The automatic Setup should be called before partitioning or formatting the hard disk.
The floppy disks required for this are created using the file MCBIOS.exe as described in section
4.3.3.1 on page 48). In order to be able to check the settings that have been made, the following
section describes the procedure for a manual Setup and lists the values
NOTE: M54 machine controller with a 30-GB hard disk
Proceed as follows to set up the 30-GB hard disk:
- Call the BIOS setup by pressing F2 immediately the machine is switched on.
- Call up the "AT Hard Disk" setup page.
- Click the "Auto all Drives" button.
The M54 now determines the parameters for the connected hard drive. The following entries are
shown for the 30-GB drive in the "Primary IDE Controller" field:
Master: [ ] USR1 3648 255 63 None ??? ??? LBA [ ] [ ] [ ]
- Close the BIOS setup with "Exit" and "Save".
Information: The original partitions are displayed correctly, but to not function correctly.
Simply reformatting the disk does not solve the problem.
- Create with FDISK follwowing partitions:
Partition Status Typ Mbyte
C:1 A PRI DOS 50
2 EXT DOS 450
- Restart the computer (Press simultaneously Ctrl + Alt + Del).
- Now the 505 software can be installed in the normal manner for a new hard disk.
