OS Setting - Language for Non-Unicode programs
This Support Media build *should* work independent of the setting "Language for Non-Unicode
programs" (this setting may cause problems on Chinese systems).
Now, all Script files (*.VBS;*.HTA;*.HTML;*.HTM;*.CSS) are converted to Unicode during Support
Media build (directories "Scripts" and "SIPLACE Net" on DVD1) and written log files use ANSI
characters.
However, there might be still cases, where problems occur - if you encounter problems please use
the language setting "English (United States)" for Non-Unicode programs.
Windows Server 2008 support
In some cases, it is required to reboot the computer before Windows Server 2008 - related
customizing scripts succeed. This is especially the case when .Net Framework has been installed.
Net Framework 3.5 SP 1 and Windows Installer 4.5 require a reboot on VistaSP1/W2008SP1
before proceeding
• New with Support Media V1.13: Analyzer will be restarted automatically after reboot and login
with same account.
• Newer Operating System versions don't require a reboot anymore (they already have a newer
Windows Installer version integrated).
Net Framework 4.0 may require a reboot before proceeding
• New with Support Media V1.13: Analyzer will be restarted automatically after reboot and login
with same account.
Choose Password policy
You have to select, if you want to apply previous (simple) passwords or more complex passwords
to created accounts to meet possible existing password policy restrictions.
New with Support Media V1.13
If SIPLACE Accounts with certain policy already exist, the appropriate option will be pre-selected
automatically. Additionally, policy selection page now allows taking over the setting from a remote
computer (which already has SIPLACE accounts). Important: Passwords of already existing
accounts won't be modified.
If Analyzer detects a conflict between the remote and the local computer it will warn you.
In specific configurations, Analyzer may detect Windows Firewall being active although it is
currently not
This may happen when Windows Firewall is configured by Group Policies to be disabled in some
situations instead of using the Control Panel settings.
Since Group Policies are most likely to be applied in Domain environments only and Prerequisite
Analyzer automatically deselects the "Windows Firewall Disable" Script in domain environments
and hints the user to check for proper configuration, this shouldn't be a problem.
Furthermore, if the user explicitly selects the "Windows Firewall Disable" Script to be executed, the
Firewall will be disabled for all conditions (=network locations) ensuring proper function of
SIPLACE Products (Although this is not recommended in domain environments for security
reasons).

3.7 Frequently Asked Questions
What is it?
Support Media assists you in preparing your computer for the use with SIPLACE Line Software.
Why so much DVDs? Do I need all?
This depends on your needs.
Normally, the first media will fit all your needs. DVD two is very similar to the first media with a
reduced size. It only contains software which you won't find on the internet and will require the
download and installation of some files manually in some cases. For SIPLACE internal use, there’s
also a Support Media variant which includes certain Installation Packages (like SQL Server
Updates) we are not allowed to distribute to customers directly in all cases.
So, can I save download time using DVD two only?
With Support Media V1.13, a download mechanism of missing Software packages has been
integrated. So, as long as you have access to the Internet, you may use the DVD two to prepare
your computer. But note: there are some cases, where automatic download of certain missing
packages isn’t possible. (For example, there are packages we had to modify for automatic
installation) Then you will have to use the offered link for manual download and installation.
In general, we recommend you to only use the second media if download size is a critical factor
and you have a very good knowledge in SIPLACE computer administration (you might have to
download and install some packages manually using appropriate settings).
How to start?
Depending on the delivery type, either mount the first ISO image using a tool like magic disc or
insert the first DVD into your drive. After the auto-run dialog has started, click on Prerequisite
Analyzer to begin preparing your computer for selected SIPLACE products. Instead, if you need
more help, you may choose "Navigation Guide" and browse through available documentation or
contact SIPLACE support for more help.
How to prepare multiple computers?
To simplify use of Support Media with multiple computers, we recommend sharing the appropriate
ISO file over network and mounting it on the other computers with a tool like magic disc. If all you
have is the DVD, the tool "Redistributor" will help you by creating an ISO file based on the inserted
DVD and storing it to a selected folder of your choice, ready for network sharing. You can start this
tool from the auto-run dialog.

Why can’t I just copy the directory structure of Support Media to my server and share it?
Currently, security restrictions of Internet Explorer prevent our HTA scripts having full permissions
outside a (physical or virtual) DVD structure. Additionally, there may appear problems accessing
files in deeper directory levels when the maximum path length has been exceeded.
After selecting SIPLACE Line Product Versions from a previous Release in Prerequisite Analyzer, I
can’t continue with installation. Prerequisite Analyzer shows the “Unavailable Installation
Packages” window. What’s going on?
We are sorry, but we had to reduce the size of the DVD and therefore removed some packages
contained in previous Release versions of Support Media. Now, we only guarantee to deliver all
packages required for the current Release (first time- and upgrade- installations). To continue
preparing your computer for an older Release, you have to either download and install the
mentioned packages manually or use the Support Media Version delivered with your old Product to
install the packages automatically. After that, you may use the new Version of Support Media if you
want to prepare for newer Products, too.
I want to use SQL Server instead of the delivered Express Edition. What is the
recommended way of installing and maintaining it for SIPLACE Products?
NOTICE
Legal situation
We are in legal clarification with Microsoft and the information about this issue may
change. The following answer is the current knowledge state.
In order to answer this question correctly, we have to decide some cases.
1) Customers:
The first question you have to answer is:
Where does my SQL Server license and installation come from?
If you got your SQL Server installation and license by SIPLACE, we will also have an internal
version of Support Media which includes SQL Server Service Pack Updates and use this version of
Support Media to upgrade the SQL Server Installation to the latest supported by your purchased
SIPLACE Products.
If you have an own SQL Server license and installation, you have the responsibility to install and
maintain your SQL Server by yourself. In this case, use Prerequisite Analyzer from Support Media
on your already installed SQL Server, select the SIPLACE Products you plan to use and
Prerequisite Analyzer will show you if it requires upgrading your SQL Server installation to a newer
version. Unfortunately, in cases where upgrades are required, we are not allowed to deliver the
updates for your SQL Server directly. So, in this case, Prerequisite Analyzer will show you the
required SQL Service Pack version but abort installation with an “Unavailable Installation
Packages” message as answered in the question above. You may contact SIPLACE support if you
have problems retrieving or installation the required SQL Server Update. After you’ve updated your
SQL Server to the required version, you may continue preparing your computer for the SIPLACE
Products you purchased.
