1Overview
The aim of this manual is to provide all the information needed for placing 0402 components. It
contains important information and rules that you will need to know in order to successfully place
0402 components.
The main topics associated with 0402 placement include:
Tips and tricks
Feeders
Nozzles
Vision parameters
Pad layouts
Solder paste parameters, etc.
2 Important notes on operational safety
WARNING
The following rules must be observed to ensure that the machines are safe to operate: 2
Å NEVER open a protective hood if you are not totally familiar with the machine sequence and
the way it works. Do not open the protective hoods during operation unless you are prompted
to do so in this manual or in the station software dialog.
Å Only appropriately trained and qualified personnel must set the key switch to set-up mode (I).
During operation, do not turn the key switch to the I position (set-up mode) unless you are
prompted to do so in this manual or in the station software dialog. 2
Å NEVER move your head or arms into the gantry travel range while the station is switched on.
Å Do not make any modifications unless you are totally aware of the effects they will have on the
overall operation of the line.
Å The stations must only be set up, changed over and maintained by appropriately trained
personnel.
Å Only use Siemens AG original spare parts and authorized accessories. The use of other parts
can affect safety and may invalidate the liability for any resulting damage.
Å The operational safety of SMD placement machines can only be guaranteed if the machines
are used in the intended manner and the instructions of the user manual / service manual are
followed.

Å The machine keys for opening the doors over control and servo units and the keys for key
switches should be kept so that they are only accessible to qualified personnel.
Å ALWAYS call in a Siemens AG service engineer if work is required on the machine and there
are no appropriately trained personnel within your company. Siemens AG shall not be held
liable for any claims arising from incorrect work, damage or consequential damage.
Å The machine operators must only carry out activities for which they have received adequate
training and with which they are fully familiar.
Å Always follow the safety regulations specific to your country.
Å Protective devices must not be modified. In particular, circuit-breakers must not be bypassed
and protective devices must not be removed.
Å If significant hazards are identified while the machine is in use, the machine operator is
required to immediately notify the manufacturer in writing so that the manufacturer can initiate
the action needed to reduce the potential hazard.
3 Which machines can be used to place 0402
components?
0402 components can be placed with all the machines from the SIPLACE family that are equipped
with a 12-segment Collect & Place head. This manual covers placement of 0402 components
using the following machines:
SIPLACE 80S-20
SIPLACE F4/F5 HM
SIPLACE S-23 HM
SIPLACE S-25 HM
SIPLACE HS-50

4 Checklist for the placement of 0402 components
4.1 Changeover table
Å
Is the surface for the feeders free of components and metal splinters?
Å Has the changeover table been coupled and locked in place correctly?
When coupling the table, makes sure that the contact surfaces for the changeover table inside
the machine are clean.
Å Do the large tape reels run on spindles?
Å Are the partitions in the tape container locked in place correctly?
Å Has the maintenance described in the maintenance manual been carried out?
4.2 Feeders
Å Are the feeders clean and have all loose components been removed?
Å Do the feeders sit flat, without rocking, on the bed of the changeover table?
In particular, look out for loose components and metal splinters on the bed of the changeover
table.
Å Is the feeder pitch set to 2 mm and is it checked regularly?
Å If paper tapes are used, are the tape supports inserted and positioned correctly?
Å Can the component cover be moved easily?
Å Check that the component cover is not damaged, dirty or oily?
Å Is the component at the correct pick-up position?
Å Has the preventive maintenance for the feeders been carried out?
Å Are the rubber blocks in position on the component cover and in good condition?
Å Has the feeder position recognition system been activated, if required?
Å Are the feeder position recognition fiducials clean and undamaged?
4.3 12-segment Collect&Place head
Å Has the necessary preventive maintenance been carried out?
Å Have you checked any location-related track errors on the station computer, particularly
vacuum errors and other track errors in relation to the segment and feeders?
