Reassembly of the Pump Cartridge
Introduction The following procedure is used to lubricate and assemble the cartridge assembly
(Figure 8) for lubrication points and orientation of parts on the leadscrew.
Procedure Lubricate and assemble the cartridge as follows:
1. Place a small amount of Die Makers grease onto a clean surface such as a shop
wipe.
2. Using a toothpick, apply grease to the groove above the threads on the lead-
screw and snap the E-ring into the groove.
Attention
Note which side of the washer is marked with the word TOP on the stepped side. The
washer must be assembled with TOP towards the motor end of the cartridge, to avoid
pump leakage.
3. Slide the pump washer over the leadscrew so that the side marked TOP faces
the E-Ring.
4. Assemble a new the O-ring onto the leadscrew and carefully move it up against
the washer.
5. Apply a coat of Die Makers grease between the new O-ring and the pump
washer.
Attention
Avoid applying grease to the threads of the leadscrew.
6. Apply a liberal coat of Die Makers grease to the O-ring and the surrounding area
on the shaft of the leadscrew. The O-ring must slide freely on the shaft during
pump operation.
7. Clean off any grease, which may have contacted the threaded portion of the
leadscrew.
8. Insert the leadscrew assembly into the top of the cartridge (threaded end first)
and snap the assembly together.
9. Insert the two 2-56 socket head cap screws (12, Figure 6) into the mounting
flange holes on the feed tube.
10. Position the feed tube on the cartridge and thread the screws into the cartridge.
11. Tighten the cap screws partially, so as to maintain an equal gap between the
mounting flange and the cartridge on both ends, while still allowing for final posi-
tioning of the feed tube.
12. Hold the cartridge straight up and down with the feed tube facing you.

13. Adjust the feed tube so that it aligns with the lead screw vertically.
14. Continue tightening the cap screws alternately so as to maintain an equal gap
between the mounting flange and the cartridge on both ends.

Installing the Cartridge
Operation and Maintenance Guide 23
Installing the Cartridge
Procedure Refer to Figure 4 and Figure 6 when performing the following:
1. Using a small amount of Die Makers grease, lubricate the point of the cartridge
retainer thumbscrew.
2. Insert the cartridge into the cartridge housing but do not push all the way in. In
order to fully insert the cartridge the flats on the leadscrew must be keyed with
the flat on the D-bushing in the bellows coupling.
3. Gently push on the cartridge while rotating the disk below the bellows coupling.
When the flats on drive shaft of the leadscrew align with flat on " D" bushing you
will be able to push the cartridge all the way in.
4. Tighten the cartridge retainer thumbscrew to secure the cartridge.
5. Tighten the syringe mount thumbscrew that secures tube assembly.
6. Install the needle and needle holder nut onto cartridge . While turning nut a
spring tension (created by the self-centering action of the auger and needle seat)
will be felt.
7. Turn needle holder nut onto cartridge until it is firmly seated.
Attention
CAUTION. The Retaining clip will not assemble onto the leadscrew unless the needle
and needle holder nut are installed onto cartridge assembly. Pre-load washer P/N
21177 can also be used.
8. Install the retainer clip onto the leadscrew using the retaining ring tweezers
(Figure 5).
