3 Escalation
Reference: Your companies procedures
When presented with a problem it is important to understand the scope of your responsibility and to determine when it is
time to escalate the problem to a supervisor or to a ASM engineer.
Preparation
Discuss your own escalation procedures with your Instructor.
Some questions you may ask in your company are:
How long can I spend on a problem before I escalate?
What documentation should I refer to when diagnosing a problem?
Do I need to record any incidents that lead to machine downtime?
Which personnel are on my escalation list and in which order should they be contacted?
Demonstration
Draw an escalation chart on the following page. Show the names and extension/pager numbers for the individuals
responsible for production, process and machine issues if these are known by you at this time.

4 Power up, initialise and Power down
Reference: Machine Operator manual
The screen printer has a specific power up and power down sequence that should be followed in order to ensure error
free performance and to ensure that data is not lost or corrupted. Switching power off and then on again is also a method
of recovering
from certain error messages.
Preparation
Whilst referring to the procedures in your machine operator manual, observe as your instructor demonstrates the correct
method of powering on, initialising and then powering off the machine.
Demonstration
Power on the machine ensuring first that the following conditions have been met:
Mains voltage is present on the machine
Compressed air is present on the machine
All circuit breakers are on
All covers are closed (and print head is down if appropriate)
All e-stops are out
Initialise the machine
Power down the machine
