Before Calling Technical Support
Before calling Universal Instruments Technical Support, please have the
following information, and be prepared to answer the following questions.

1. Provide a detailed description of the symptoms. Including the
following:
a. Is the machine down?
b. Is the problem intermittent or consistent?
c. Is the problem machine specific?
d. Is the problem product specific?
e. Is the problem head specific?
f. Is the problem repeatable? If so, exactly what steps are taken to
create the problem? It is important to provide a step-by-step
description.
2. What steps are required to recover or clear the condition: reload the
product, press and release the E-Stop switch, or power cycle?
3. Provide a detailed description of any events immediately before the
problem. Include the following:
a. When did the problem start?
b. Have any software updates been done recently? If yes, what
version of software was the machine going from and to?

c. Have any hardware updates been done recently? If yes, what
updates were done?
4. Provide a list of any error messages displayed.
5. What has been done to diagnose the problem? What hardware has
been replaced or swapped?
6. Report if any error indicator lights are on in any electrical chassis.
7. What is the status on the high power amps?
8. Be prepared to obtain the two command buffer log files and the two
parameters log files from the machine to provide to Technical Support.
These files are located in C:\MCOS\GMCBoard:
• Cmdbuf_x.txt (where x is 1, 2, or 3)
• Param_x.txt (where x is 1, 2, or 3)
