1Introduction
1.1 Traceability
In the printed circuit board production industry, traceability means the ability to trace back production
data over long periods. For example, the traceability data can be used even after years to determine
which component was used in a particular batch/packaging unit, to place a certain board.
Traceability covers all the components needed to generate traceability data in a placement line. This in-
cludes the release of traceability data at the individual stations, generating traceability data on line level,
archiving/visualizing the same traceability data in Trace Monitor, and transferring the traceability data to
superior systems.
If required by the customer, splice sensors and board barcode readers can also be integrated into the
traceability system.
1.2 Target Group
SIPLACE Traceability is designed for trained personnel and system administrators at the customer com-
pany. Users are expected to be thoroughly familiar with SIPLACE machines and the SMD process.
NOTICE
Traceability data quality
The traceability software is subjected to endurance tests before being released. (Virtual) PCBs
are produced during the endurance tests over 48 hours. The traceability data produced thereby
has a quality of 0 dpm.
In real production environments, the quality of the traceability data depends on the entire proc-
ess chain.
By means of measures in the software (e.g. splice monitor), errors from the operational level
and from the hardware process chain will be intercepted.
In rare cases, however, it is possible that traceability data is faulty.
The following error situations are known:
►missing splice point (configurations with splice sensor)
►scanning of wrong packaging unit information
NOTICE
Trace Host no longer included
SIPLACE Trace Host is no longer part of the Traceability 3.3 product CD. The database option
is now made available via the SIPLACE Trace Service and can be configured with the Trace
Service Manager.
CAUTION
Qualified Personnel
This work may only be carried out by staff with appropriate training for the specific software part.
►All tasks must be carried out by trained and qualified personnel. All warning, caution and
danger notes MUST be observed!
