Document Purpose / Target Group
We recommend that you read through this manual carefully, even if you are already familiar with the
main SiCluster Multiline functions. This manual includes all key information about SiCluster Multiline and
its connections to other systems. Practical examples guide you "step by step" through the basic functions
of SiCluster Multiline. At the end of this document, you will be able to master the main tasks with SiClus-
ter Multiline. You can then build upon this knowledge in training sessions and learn about further func-
tions.
The contents of this manual address the following user groups:
The production planner
The production planner has completed a special training course and is authorized to perform tasks
such as setup and production planning, defining optimization parameters etc.

2.1 What is SiCluster Multiline?
What is SiCluster Multiline?
SiCluster Multiline is a key component for program-controlled production planning.
SiCluster Multiline is used to determine the most efficient distribution of specified recipes/jobs across an
available quantity of lines. Based on an optimized product/recipe line allocation, you can then cluster
within the lines with the help of SiCluster Professional and optimize the result setups (cluster).
SiCluster Multiline therefore enables you to distribute numerous recipes/jobs across multiple lines, there-
by making it easier for the downstream optimization steps with SiCluster Professional and the result job
optimization to find good solutions.
SiCluster Multiline is designed to achieve the following goals:
Even utilization of lines
Lowest possible overall production time across all lines
Lowest possible number of setups required to produce the recipes/jobs

2.2 Who is SiCluster Multiline Designed For?
Who is SiCluster Multiline Designed For?
SiCluster Multiline is particularly suitable for the three following areas of application:
1. Medium to long term capacity planning for fixed family setups
2. Evaluation of "what if" planning scenarios
3. Short term distribution and clustering of upcoming production jobs
Medium to long term capacity planning for fixed family setups
In this case, the customer has medium to long term advance planning for the expected production jobs.
This could, for example, include advance planning for the next three to six months.
SiCluster Multiline is used to optimize the allocation of production jobs to the production lines. This allo-
cation is then fixed for a longer period. The aim is to produce as many production jobs as possible in
fixed setups. The software takes into account the prescribed restrictions and creates an even distribution
of the production volume across the lines.
You can also check whether the line capacity currently available is sufficient to cover the expected ad-
vance planning volumes for a certain period.
Evaluation of "what if" planning scenarios
SiCluster Multiline is suitable for so-called "what if" planning scenarios.
These planning scenarios are needed in case changes must be made to the production capacity or line
configuration.
Examples of "what if" planning scenarios:
Can the expected production volume be produced with the current shift plans or are additional shifts
required?
Could we shut down line X for the next two months?
What would be the advantage of replacing an old line with a new SIPLACE line?
Is is advisable to remove machines from line X, in order to extend line Y, Z?
Short term distribution and clustering of upcoming production jobs
The two above mentioned application cases focus on using medium to long term advance planning.
However, SiCluster Multiline is also suitable for short term planning if you already know the upcoming
production jobs for a certain planning horizon e.g. for several days or a week.
The aim is to produce all production jobs with as few setups as possible in the shortest possible time.
In these cases, flexible family setups are used, which are then only used for producing the current pro-
duction jobs. The allocation to these production lines is flexible. The next time, SiCluster Multiline could
allocate the production job for the same product to a different line.
