1.9 Handling solvents
Takethefollowingprecautionswhenhandlingcleaningsolventsduringsolderprintingorpreparation.
Hazards when handling solvents
1. Hazards to human health
Organicsolventsconstantlyvaporizeandcontaminatethesurroundingatmosphere.Inhalingorcomingincontactwith
organicsolventvapormaycauseseriousdamagetohumanhealth.
2. Flammability
Organicsolventsarehighlyflammablesubstancesandcaneasilycatchfireifhandledimproperly.
3. Adverse effects on machines
Somesolventtypeswilldamagethecleaningunit,electricalwiresheathandvariousunitsusedinthesolderpaste
printer.
To avoid hazards of solvents
1.Becarefulnottoinhaletoxicvaporsofsolventsforextendedperiods.
2.Donotusesolventsnearfireorflame.Keepsolventsawayfromflameorfire.
3.Useonlythespecifiedsolventinthecorrectmanner.Donotreuseanysolventrepeatedly,anddonotmixwithother
solventsorchemicals.
1.10 Handling the X-ray unit
SomeYSseriesinspectionequipmentmodelscontainanX-rayunit.Takethefollowingprecautionswhenusing
withanX-rayunit.
1. The X-ray output window of the X-ray source is made of very thin beryllium foil.
· Berylliumintheformofdustparticlescancauseacutetoxicityorchronictoxicity,andmayinducerespiratory
problemsifinhaled.
· Toensuresafety,theX-rayunitisdesignedsothattheX-raywindowcannotbetouched.However,shouldtheX-ray
outputwindowbebrokenforsomereason,immediatelyturnoffthepowerswitchanduseextremecarenottoinhale
thedustparticles.
· ChlorinegascancorrodetheberylliumwindowoftheX-raytube,causingpermanentdamagetotheX-raytube.Do
notusetheX-rayunitinenvironmentswherechlorinegasesaregenerated.Takespecialcarewhenhandlingsamples
suchasvinylchloridematerialswhichmaygeneratechlorinegases.
2. Lead is used in the covers of machines equipped with an X-ray unit.
Althoughleadissealedwithinthecoverssothattheleadportionscannotbedirectlytouched,usecautionsinceleadis
knownasheavymetalhavingharmfuleffects.
3. A safety key is provided for machines equipped with an X-ray unit.
Thesafetykeymustbemanagedbythesupervisorofthemachine.
4. Safety education about X-ray
AppropriatemeasuresaretakenforYAMAHA'sX-rayunitsothattheamountoftheX-rayleaktotheoutsideofthe
equipmentisverysmall.Therefore,whenusingthisequipmentinJapan,itisnotnecessarytosetcontrolledareasdefined
inArticle3oftheOrdinanceonPreventionofIonizingRadiationHazards.
Itisnotlegallyobligatedtoconductthesafetyeducation,butitisrecommendedtoconducttheeducationbythe
customer.
WhenoperatingthisequipmentoutsideJapan,thesafetyeducationisconductedasrequiredaccordingtotherelevant
country'slaws,regulations,andstandards.
TIP
When conducting the safety education in Japan, the contents stated in “Special Education Standard for Radiography
(Ordinance of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare No. 50)” are recommended. However, the safety education
does not necessarily need to be these contents.
