4.2 System configuration
There are several different recommended installation scenarios for SIPLACE Setup Center. The
installation depends on the working area where SIPLACE Setup Center will be used and on other
conditions as described below.
4.2.1 SIPLACE Pro
It is recommended that at least the SIPLACE Pro Interface (SPI) is installed on the system. SIPLACE
Setup Center works with SIPLACE Pro 3.2, 4.1 and 5.0 but it uses different files, depending on the
SIPLACE Pro version.
Further information about this is given in the according installation steps for SIPLACE Setup Center GUI.
4.2.2 Setup Center Database
Before the first installation you must decide which type of data management will be used. The following
decision tree should give you support with this decision. Please read through the questions thoroughly
and follow the appropriate result path. As a result you get the recommended kind of installation for the
SIPLACE Setup Center database.
4-1: Decision Tree for SIPLACE Setup Center Database
Questions:
Do the packaging units have Unique ID barcodes?
Each packaging unit in the factory must be marked with a unique barcode. It is possible that the
unique ID is part of a combined barcode.
Do you validate the setup in a pre-setup area?
The pre-setup area is used to validate the setup for correctness and completeness. The validated
tables are docked to the production line(s) for use.
Local database (MSDE)
This scenario does track the numbers of components on each packaging unit. The current number
of components are "remembered" when the packaging unit is torn down. If the packaging unit is
moved to another line the other Setup Center system does not know this reel and will start with the
start quantity. Therefore the operator need to check each partially fractured packaging unit he gets

from the stock and need to adjust the quantity if necessary.
This scenario offers a higher amount of operation safety, because the SIPLACE Setup Center and
a local MSDE database are installed to different computers for each production line. If one
component of SIPLACE Setup Center encounters an error, only one production line is affected.
Central database
The SIPLACE Setup Center database can be installed to any available Microsoft SQL Server 2000
(SP3a). In this case, the customer is responsible to set up a backup & recovery strategy and must
provide an operating Microsoft SQL Server 2000 (SP3a).
Database Version
The database is upgraded by the installation. In this step, the current verification data is deleted and
the setup must be verified again after the installation. All data that is connected to unique IDs (Unique
IDs for packaging units and change over tables) will be kept in the database. This means that after
re-verifying the fill-levels of the packaging units are restored.
Database Backup & Recovery Strategy
The setup automatically creates two database jobs, which backup the SIPLACE Setup Center database.
The first job Full backup executes a backup of the database and several maintenance tasks. The job
starts every week Sunday at 00.00. The second job Delta backup executes only a backup of the
database and starts every day, except Sunday at 00:00. During the backup SIPLACE Setup Center
database is locked and the Setup Center GUI have to wait until unlock.
The backups are stored in
C:\Programme\Siemens SIPLACE\SIPLACE Setup Center\Database
.
A job completion event is written to the Windows application log. More details are written to the file
SiplaceSetupCenterReport.txt
in the database directory.
4.2.3 Setup Center GUI
It is recommended to install SIPLACE Setup Center GUI once for each line and pre-setup area. With the
"central database" scenario these can use the same database at the same time.
It is recommended to use two barcode scanners per line and SIPLACE Setup Center GUI installation.
4.2.4 Forced Setup Verification
Activate the forced setup verification at the placement station if it is necessary.
4.2.5 Docking Stations
The installation of the docking station is necessary, if equipment of the X-Series is used and a pre setup
area or kitting area exists.
NOTE:
The database version for SIPLACE Setup Center 2.3 is 1.0.1.7.
The database version for SIPLACE Setup Center 2.2 SP1 is 1.0.1.6.
The database version for SIPLACE Setup Center 2.2 is 1.0.1.5.
NOTE:
When working with identical component lots (without Unique IDs), the fill-levels of the packaging
units must be restored manually after the installation (fill-level corrections).

4-2: System configuration Local Database
Usually the system configuration "Local Database" is for a small manufacturing facility with one ore two
production lines. An assumption for the configuration is that the SIPLACE Pro database is also installed
locally and no SIPLACE EDM is used. The Setup Center GUI is directly connected to the local SIPLACE
Pro and local Setup Center Database and manages the setup verification for the stations connected via
the SIPLACE LAN.
This scenario can also be used, if a step-by-step introduction is helpful. Then it may also helpful to omit
the "Forced Setup Verification" activation and to start with the unforced setup verification. After a definite
time the forced setup verification can be activated at station and Setup Center.
