Leak on the sea
Stop the leakage if there is no risk of danger. Deploy oil booms immediately to prevent spreading. Make sure
to give cautions to other transporters. Scoop up or soak up oil with an adequate absorber to remove it from
the water surface. Ask for specialist’s advices before using the dispersant.
Instructions on leak on the ground and the sea given here are based on the most likely scenario.
However, the measures to be taken seem to depend largely on geographical conditions, wind direction,
and temperatures. On top of these, for a leak on the sea, waves, tidal flow, and speed need to be
considered. In these cases, it is required to consult the local experts.
(Note: The measures to be taken may be specified or limited by the local regulations.)
Preventive measures for environment
Large leak
For recovery and disposal afterwards, dig a ditch at a place away from the end of leak. Prevent the oil from
flowing into channels, sewerage, underground or confined places.
Precautions in Handling and Storage
Handling
Avoid a small leakage and spillage to prevent accidents caused by slippage.
Electrostatic storage
This product accumulates static electricity.
Storage
Do not store in containers not sealed or labeled.
Disposal Consideration
Precautions in disposal are based on the state of the product in which it was supplied. Disposal of the
product must comply with the applicable laws and regulation according to the state of the product at the
time.
Disposal recommendation
It is appropriate to burn the product as fuel with a sealed burner with flame control, or with an
incineration system specially controlled to prevent hazardous combustion products from being
generated.

First Aid Measures
Inhalation
Inhaling mist at room temperature should not be a problem.
If exposed to oil mist excessively, avoid any more contacts.
If the breathing gets abnormal or stops, give an artificial respiration, and immediately consult a physician.
Skin contact
Skin contact should not cause problems.
Eye contact
Flush with water abundantly until irritation is gone. Consult a physician if the irritation persists.
Ingestion
If swallowed, keep at rest and consult a physician.
Do not induce vomiting unless instructed to do so by medical personnel.
Fire Fighting Measures
Fire extinguishing agents
Foam, dry chemical, and carbon dioxide.
Risk of fire or explosion
Combustible substance, less hazardous.
If heated to more than the ignition point, flammable mixture gas may be formed or combustion may result.
Even a slight mixing with highly evaporable carbon hydride increases risk.
How to extinguish
Spray water to cool the parts exposed to fire (e.g.: containers, etc.) and also to protect people against fire.
Fire fighting must be done by trained personnel.
Shut off the fuel supply.
Let the fire burn out under controlled conditions or extinguish with foam or dry chemical.
Firefighters exposed to fire or fume must wear respiration apparatus and goggles.
Harmful combustion product
Incomplete combustion generates carbon monoxide and sulfur/phosphorus oxides.

Accidental Release Measures
Leak on the ground
Stop the leakage while taking safe preventive measures. Prevent the leaked oil from flowing to drains, water
courses or lowland.
If the oil flows out or permeate the soil or crops, it must be reported to the control authority. Take measures
to minimize the effect of the leakage to the groundwater.
Scoop up or use an explosion-proof pump to collect the oil. Also use the dunnage woods to prevent the oil
from flowing out, or soak up with soil or absorber to collect in a container.
Leak on the sea
Deploy oil booms immediately to keep the oil from spreading.
Give warning to other ships.
Report to harbor or control authority.
Scoop up or soak up with absorber to collect oil from the water surface.
With a permission from the control authority, and if the area is not part of prohibited zone, diffuse the
remaining oil.
Precautions in Handling and Storage
Store in cool, well-ventilated place, and keep away from all ignition sources.
Prepare appropriate apparatus for handling drums or heavy containers safely.
Electric system must fulfill the requirements of the fire defense law.
Store at room temperature, up to 40°C.
Preventive measures
Seal the container when not in use.
Avoid a small leakage and slippage to prevent accidents caused by slippage.
Disposal Consideration
Business owners should dispose of industrial wastes by themselves in compliance with the law on waste
disposal and cleaning, or entrust the disposal to the specialists approved by the governor.
