When “4. BC DATA” is selected at the “** MAIN MENU **” window
(Fig. 4), the following window appears on the screen.

[Displayed Contents]
BC LEN : Set the length of the bar code to be read.
(Max.: 99 characters and Default: 99)
START : Set the starting position of the bar code to be read as a
first effective character.
(Starting Position as First Effective Character: 1 through
99 and Default: 1)
EF LEN : Set the number of effective characters.
(Max.: 32 characters and Default: 16)
9.1 Operation
(1) Enter each number of characters.
(2) When “START (Starting Position)” - 1 + “EF LEN (Effective Length)”
exceeds “BC LEN (Bar Code Length)”, “1” is set forcibly as
“START”and “BC LEN” - “START” + “1” as “EF LEN”.
(3) A warning peep sounds twice when the number of effective charac-
ters is forcibly specified.
(4) When no parameter is entered and the [ENT] key is pressed, the
defaults are set for each item.
(5) After parameters are set for each item, the “** MAIN MENU **” win-
dow (Fig. 4) resumes.
When the code type is “CODE39”, “*” is attached before and
after the code.
As they are deleted automatically when the bar code is read,
ignore them and set each number of characters. However, “*”
is included in the length of the bar code to be read.

10. Masking the Component Name (ID) to be Checked
When “5. MASK” is selected at the “** MAIN MENU **” window (Fig. 4),
the following window appears on the screen.
Fig. 39
[Displayed Contents]
1. FUNCTION : Select this to determine whether or not the first
character (or a string of characters) of the com-
ponent name (ID) should be masked.
2. MASK CHAR : Select this to set the first character to be masked.
3. EIAJ FUNC : Select this to determine whether or not “3N*”
should be masked.
10.1 Operation
(1) When the [F1] (M1) key is pressed, “ON” is set for “1. FUNCTION”.
When the key is pressed once again, “OFF” is set. Every time the
key is pressed, “ON” is changed to “OFF” or vice versa.
(2) When the [F2] (M3) key is pressed, “ON” is set for “3. EIAJ FUNC”.
When the key is pressed once again, “OFF” is set. Every time the
key is pressed, “ON” is changed to “OFF” or vice versa.
(3) When the [F3] (BACK) key is pressed, the character for “2. MASK
CHAR” changes in the ascending (from “Z” to “A”) order.
(4) When the [F4] (FORE) key is pressed, the character for “2. MASK
CHAR” changes in the descending (from “A” to “Z”) order.
(5) When the [ENT] key is pressed, the “** MAIN MENU **” window
(Fig. 4) resumes.
(a) When “OFF” is set for “1. FUNCTION”, the masking func-
tion is not executed.
When “ON” is set, the first character is checked prior to
the others.

10. Masking the Component Name (ID) to be Checked

(b) When “P” is set for “2. MASK CHAR”, the following ap-
plies.
(1) When the first character is identical, it is ignored and
the second and subsequent characters become ef-
fective.
Read Bar Code : P12345
Effective Data : 12345
(2) When the first character is not identical, the first and
subsequent characters become effective.
Read Bar Code : P12345
Effective Data : P12345
(c) EIAJ (3N*) Pattern
(1) When the first string of characters is identical, the first
string (3 characters) is ignored and the fourth and sub-
sequent characters becomes effective.
Read Bar Code : 3N1A12345
Effective Data : A12345
(2) When the first string of characters is not identical, the
first and subsequent characters become effective.
Read Bar Code : XYZA12345
Effective Data : XYZA12345
(d) When one character to be masked is “3”, the first “3N*” of
EIAJ is not processed.
One-character masking is implemented prior to the oth-
ers, do not use “3” as one character to be masked.
(e) In EIAJ, data up to a space or the end becomes effective.
When the number of characters up to a space does not
meet the specified number of effective characters, the
characters up to the space are checked.
When the read data exceeds the specified number of ef-
fective characters, the data up to the specified one is
checked.
(f) When the bar code (normal one) other than EIAJ or AIAG
is handled and “ON” is set for “1. FUNCTION”, the bar code
label starting with “3N*” or the specified character is not
processed as a normal label.
When three labels exist together, the normal labels start-
ing with “P*” or “3N*” are not processed normally. Do not
use such bar code labels.
