1. Introduction
1-1 Overview
An RX-8 are a high-speed compact modular mounter that forms the kernel of the next-generation flex
modular line, and its safety, reliability, maintainability, and economic performance is improved
furthermore while succeeding the flexibility performance realized by the modular concept established in
the past.
The linear motor is used for the Y-axis as the drive system, and the machine is equipped with a P20
nozzle head (high-speed head) that is driven with an independent servomotor used in the X-axis, so that
the system realizes speeding-up and versatility.
Additionally, combination of this machine and the “JaNets,” which is a manufacturing support system,
allows you to manage/optimize a production line (that is, a production site) in a comprehensive manner,
and this assists improvement of productivity and manufacturing quality, and cost reduction due to
efficiency.

2. Features of the Machine
(1) Improvement of productivity
• Highly reliable planet heads are allocated to the compact and highly rigid body so that they
cannot interfere with one another.
• A P20 nozzle head equipped with 20 nozzles (high-speed head) has been developed. This
head allows high productivity of the machine as well as high maintenance ability.
(2) Effective cycle time
• Use of the head moving up/down mechanism shortens the time required to move up/down a
nozzle, so this allows high-speed component placement.
• Asynchronous PWB production with the left and right heads is supported. This shortens the head
waiting time as much as possible to improve the effective cycle time.
• If the structure without board stopper is selected, the production stopping a board at the most
suitable position is enabled.
• The number of nozzles that can be attached on one P20 nozzle head is increased up to 20 to
reduce the number of passes for pick-up/placement of a component.
(3) Increase in the operation rate
• The RX-8 can use the DAS, which is the software that decides the component placement order,
the feeder assignment, which nozzle is to be used, the number of the required nozzles based on
simulation and/or calculation of the cycle time to draw out the optimal performance of the RX-8.
(“DAS” is an initialism for Data Arrangement Software.)
• As external programming software, the
Production support system is provided, which is the
software allowing you to create mark data or a production program.
The Program Editor is specialized in adjustment of data when it runs on an RX-8, and part of the
setup assistance function, which integrates setup operation, is automated.
• The machine continues to operate without using a nozzle that is judged as a malfunctioning
nozzle (“NG” nozzle).
(4) Reduction in setup time
• A series of setup processes such as switching of production programs, adjustment of the board A
series of setup processes such as switching of production programs, adjustment of the board
transfer width, replacement of feeder trolleys and replacement of the ATCs all of which are
required for PWB production are integrated on one screen as the setup assistance function.
This function allows you to perform setup operations quickly and securely thanks to easy
operation of the screen.
• The machine is equipped with a laser sensor (HMS) to correct the height for picking up a
component automatically.
• The machine recognizes marks on a feeder to correct a component pick-up position
automatically.
(5) Low frequency of failure occurrence
• Its component recognition camera can detect whether a component is turned over or not.
• The machine conducts self-diagnostic during PWB production or at start-up.
• The machine issues a warning of a tape feeder failure if a tape feeder which issues a component
pickup alarm frequently has to be serviced.
(6) Low component loss rate
• Its component pick-up checking camera detects a tombstone error of a miniature component and
whether the machine fails to pick up a component.
(7) Space saving
• The width of the machine is 998 mm: the footprint of the machine is smaller than that of an RX-6
by approximately 28 %.

(8) Improvement of the operability
• The operation menu is changed completely: the favorites function and the history menu function
allow you to reach to the desired function by touching three buttons or less.
• The screen is composed of the easy-to-read and large color touch panel screen and the easy to
operate icon operating screen.
• The machine uses the easy-to-operate user interface excellent in the operability which supports
editing of recognition data.
(9) High operability
• The planet head can be attached/detached easily, and then serviced off-line.
• You can easily attach/detach a spare ATC on which nozzles are assigned.
(10) Conformance to laws and regulations
• The machine is marked with Europe CE directive.
• The machine conforms to Juki’s Green Purchasing Regulation.
