agent.
Caution
Be sure to keep the feeder clean, and prevent faults by fully
understanding the periodical check items.

3.2. Table for Failure Check
Defective Part Feeding (Feeding Error)
When the feeder failed to feed the part properly, the error message called the feeder index
error is displayed in the MMI. Check the feeder status referring to the following table.
Major
Status
Causes Items for Check or Caution
Incorrect installation of tape in the
sprocket.
Take measures to ensure that the sprocket teeth
come into the tape holes properly.
Tape is
stuck
inside the
feeder
A part is stuck in the tape discharge path. Lift up the feeder and remove the part stuck in the
tape discharge path.
Incorrect installation of cover vinyl on the
tape guide.
Check if the vinyl cover is rolled in the tape guide
without being peeled off.
Incorrect connection of vinyl tape Use standard tape and operate according to the
manual.
Excessive foreign materials in the vinyl slot
of the tape guide.
Check and clean the vinyl slot periodically.
Defective opening and closing of the rear
door of the vinyl box.
Check if the vinyl door opens and closes smoothly.
Lots of adhesive foreign materials on the
vinyl discharge gear.
Clean the vinyl discharge gear periodically.
Defective
vinyl tape
discharge
Adhesive force of the vinyl itself is
particularly strong.
Use the vinyl box with its door open.
Defective operation of solenoid valve. Check if the signal is transmitted to the valve lamp. Defective
cylinder
operation
Leakage of air or air supply cut off. Check if air leaks from the cylinder.
Check if the pneumatic tube is bent.
Index sensor is out of order. Check if the error occurs even though the cylinder
operates.
Defective
index
sensor
Sensor dog or lever is deformed. Check if the lever is in the dog during operation.
Insufficient
feeding
force
Excessively heavy part is stuck in the
hanger.
Check if parts are fed during manual feeding.
Offset of Part Feeding Position
After inserting the tape installed feeder into the feeder base slot and clamping the feeder,
if the part feeding position of the feeder differs significantly from the default set position,
check the feeder state referring to the following table.
Major
Status
Causes Items for Check or Caution
Distorted eccentric pin determining the
position of the sprocket.
Check ‘I marking’ and correct the feeding
position.
Wear occurred to the ratchet, stop pole,
etc.
Check the surface of the part for wear.
Worn or
distorted
part
Foreign materials on the sprocket,
ratchet, etc.
Clean the sprocket, ratchet, etc. periodically.
Deformed tape guide. Lift up the tape guide and check free fall. Defective
position of
the tape
guide
Foreign material on the vinyl contact
surface of the tape guide.
Clean the tape guide periodically.
Defective
matching
ff d
Position determining pin is worn or
pressed.
Check the appearance of the position
determining pin.
Samsung SM-Series Pneumatic Tape Feeder Users' Manual
3-6
of feeder
base
Foreign materials in the feeder base
slot and clamp.
Clean the feeder base periodically.
Pickup
position
matching
error
Check if the pickup position matches
with the ‘-‘ mark position of the tape
guide.
Correct the position by manual feeding.
Defective Feeder Clamp
If the feeder is not inserted into the feeder bas slot or the clamping is not performed
smoothly and if the chip mounter does not recognize the feeder even though the feeder is
clamped, the user needs to check and pay attention to the following items.
Major
Status
Causes Items for Check or Caution
Deformed clamp roller and link. Check if the roller is bent to the left or right.
A part is stuck between the feeder base
and clamp roller.
Clean the feeder base periodically.
Defective
clamp
operation
Deformed position determining pin and
installation guide.
Check if the feeder base is clean and the clamp
operates properly.
Deformed clamp switch sensor. Check if the feeder is recognized by the MMI during
clamping.
Defective
clamp
signal
Defective clamp LED. Check if the LED is turned on during clamping.
Defective
probe pin
contact
Missing or damaged probe pin. Check the status of the probe pin.
High Part Dump Rate
If the part dump rate of the feeder is higher than the average dump rate, check the feeder
status referring to the following table.
Major
Status
Causes Items for Check or Caution
Distorted part feeding position. Check for any problem after changing the pickup
mode to the individual pickup mode.
The part pickup height of the nozzle is
incorrectly set up.
Measure and reflect the actual thickness and height
of the corresponding part.
Defective
pickup
Incorrect setup of feeding pitch. Check if the part interval matches with the set pitch.
Setup speed of the cylinder is too fast. Regulate the cylinder speed control valve.
Defective tape guide operation. Check if the tape guide moves smoothly.
Defective shutter operation. Check if the shutter operates properly during manual
feeding.
A part is touched during shutter
movement.
Check visually for part interference during manual
feeding.
Occurrence
of part
standing
A part is lifted up due to static electricity. Check if the part is lifted up when peeling the vinyl by
hand.
Damaged part at the vinyl connection
area.
High part
dump rate
when
connecting
vinyl
Distorted feeding position at the vinyl
connection area.
Use standard vinyl connecting tape and connection
tip to connect the vinyl.
Defective Function of Material Rack
When performing work after hanging the reel type tape on the reel hanger, the hanger
may not move smoothly or a problem may occur. When the following problems occur,
