5 Configuration
5.1 Settings in SIPLACE Pro Desk
To guarantee proper operation of SIPLACE EDM, it is necessary to change some settings in SIPLACE Pro
Desk.
• SIPLACE EDM associates objects on the Master Server and the Line Servers using their names, i.e. an
object must have the same name on all computers. It is recommended that you suppress the ability to
rename and create objects on EDM lines using the user permissions management facilities in SIPLACE
Pro.
• The Vision Data Manager (VDM) must be activated on all SIPLACE Pro Desk installations which are to
participate in EDM to allow Vision data (BLOBs), camera parameters and illumination parameters to be
processed for the line and the station.
• Some settings for SIPLACE Pro Desk (under "Tools->Settings->General Settings"???) must be
consistent across all EDM Client computers and the EDM Master. Currently, this applies to
o "Vision Data Management" on/off (we recommend "on"), and
o the two options for the extended MC number range (Twin Head and CPP head)
5.2 EDM-specific settings
CAUTION:
After any change has been made to the configuration files, it is recommended that
all EDM applications and the EDM service on the computers concerned should be
restarted.
5.2.1 Necessary settings
The following options must generally be entered manually in the EDM Master and EDM line configuration
files after installation.
• Alias for the computer:
The EDM lines involved are assigned more readable names in this section. The aliases must be
the same on all the EDM computers. If no aliases are entered, the network IDs of the computers
are used for display purposes (see 5.2.3.31 Aliases).
NOTE:
Aliases should always be defined for push mode.

• SPI lines:
If
o the EDM VDM BLOB functions are to be used or
o protection against overwriting current product data is to be activated in push mode
(Section 5.2.4.4)
the SPI lines for which each Line Server is responsible must be configured. Otherwise, BLOBs will
be accepted for all SPI lines present in the local SIPLACE Pro database (see 5.2.3.24, Assigned
SPI Lines).
• The configuration setting
xmlImportVisionDataAdvancedAction
controls the correct overwriting
of Vision data (if the EDM VDM BLOB functions are used, this entry can be modified as described
in Section 5.2.3.33 (Advanced vision data actions)).
• Comment categories:
These categories are available for selection when entering a comment on a new notification. If this
section is empty, no categories are shown in the dialog box (see 5.2.3.29 Comment categories).
5.2.2 Registry
This section describes the part of configuration performed using the Windows Registry. This includes all
user-defined settings as well as all settings that need to be accessed before the application starts. The
installation program presets these with sensible values.
All keys are subkeys of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Siemens\SIPLACE\EDM.
Key Type Contents
ConfigDir String Folder for configuration files. If the key is not present, then the
search continues in the "config" subfolder of the installation folder.
EdmServiceLanguage String Language setting for the EDM Master Server and Line Servers.
Default: English. Can be changed in the EDM configuration.
EdmClientLanguage String Language setting for the EDM Client. Default: English. Can be
changed in the EDM Client.
ClearingPoolLanguage String Language setting for the Clearing Pool and Line Data Transfer
Manager. Default: English. Can be changed in the Clearing Pool.

5.2.3 Configuration file
The configuration file is an XML-based file that uses the format of the Microsoft configuration files (see also
"Configuration of .NET Framework Applications" for additional information).
The configuration file for all EDM applications is named EDM.config and is located in the configuration
folder. A change therefore applies, for example, to both the EDM master service as well as to the Clearing
Pool installed on this computer. A change only takes effect after the applications are restarted.
The permitted keys used are described in brief in Table 7. The individual entries are specified in detailed in
sections 5.2.3.1 "Server type" to 5.2.3.28 "Starting point". For purposes of legibility, abbreviations are used
in the table. The abbreviations are explained in brief in Table 6.
