2.3 VIH with MES and BGK from Station Software 707.0
An external Manufacturing Execution System (MES) provides inkspot information (directly or via
mapped inkspot files) that describes the panels to be produced per board identified by a barcode.
The inkspots must not be defined in the board description and the panels are assigned according
to the board and panel names defined in SIPLACE Pro. The Windows service BoardGateKeeper
(BGK) acts as a medium between the line hardware (scanner or transportation systems) and the
line software (such as 3rd party applications, MES). The BGK inquires the inkspot information from
the MES and behaves like a preceding station to the first station in the line. The PCB barcode and
the inkspot information are transmitted via WDTL by the BGK to the first station. Thereafter, the
inkspot information is transferred via WDTL from the first station to the succeeding stations.
The barcode can be read either with a barcode reader or with the PCB camera. Thus, the
placement machine only has to be equipped with a barcode reader at the bottom. Alternatively, the
barcode can be transmitted via the BGK to the machine by using an external barcode reader.
NOTICE
As of SIPLACE Pro 15.0 and station software 711.0:
External barcode readers can be used in front of any placement machine in the line
together with the BGK. The BGK can be defined as the whisper predecessor of any
station in the line. Please refer to the Board Gate Keeper User Manual,
item no.: [00900022-xx].
To ensure that the PCB camera can read the barcode a "TOP Level Barcode" has to be defined as
barcode fiducial. If necessary, panel barcodes can also be defined as barcode fiducials.
Figure 2-2: Workflow VIH with MES and BGK
Workflow
– The 1
st
placement machine reads the PCB barcode with a barcode reader or the PCB camera.
– The PCB barcode is sent to the MES via the OIB interface of the BGK.
– The MES returns inkspot data with the panels to be produced. The panel names are defined in
SIPLACE Pro.
– The inkspot data is transferred to the next placement machine(s) by the Whisper Down The
Line option.

3 System Requirements and Compatibility
The system requirements and compatibility depend on which variant of VIH is used (with XML files
directly at the first station or via the "MES" interface of the ASM Board Gate Keeper). The following
requirements apply for the two variants.

Board Gate Keeper

– Reading Barcode recognition with PCB
Camera
Notice: This license is required for each
station in the line or, alternatively to this, an
installed barcode reader.
– The SOKO "VIH XML Wrapper" provides a
higher flexibility in reading VIH files (XML,
Wafer, isk) and also in interpreting the row /
column relation. It requires one license per
line.

The option is available from station software version 702.0 but not on GUI until 706.0.

VIH with XML files VIH with MES and BGK
File input format: XML
– File input format: XML, Wafer format
mapped with SIPLACE VIH XML Wrapper.
Notice: Any input format, e.g. CSV, may be
implemented on a customer SOKO request.
– Via a public OIB programming interface.
The customer must implement the
"BoardNotification" interface of the ASM
Board Gate Keeper as a web service. This
interface allows to whisper VIH information
into the first physical machine based on a
barcode either read by any of the station
cameras or an external barcode reader
system.
Table 3-1: System requirements and compatibility
Traceability is not mandatory but recommended. If the Requires PCB barcode verification setting
is enabled under the Traceability settings in the Board Editor of SIPLACE Pro, the board stops
when reading the PCB barcode has failed.
3.1 Restrictions
– VIH with XML files: mixed lines (e.g. SW 7xx and 605x) are only possible if all stations can
access the shared drive on which the XML files are stored.
– VIH with XML files: external barcode readers are not supported.
– VIH with MES and BGK: a mix of physical and virtual inkspots is not permitted. The SIPLACE
Pro board is not allowed to contain any inkspots (global or subpanel).
– VIH is defined per setup. If the customer has products for both VIH and not VIH he has to
switch off VIH in the setup before downloading a product not supporting VIH (or create a copy
of the setup with this setting being switched off).
– If another device e.g. AOI is present between the placement machines, whispering is only
possible if the placement machine after the AOI is equipped with a barcode reader and is
defined as a line (SMEMA cluster) in SIPLACE Pro. If not, the inkspots will be read again in the
placement machine after the AOI.
