2 Assembly Instructions for Vacuum
Pump SIPLACE X Series
2.1 Functional description
Vacuum is necessary for all Collect&Place heads. So far the entire vacuum was produced using
Venturi jets in the Collect&Place placement head. 2
This vacuum pump produces vacuum more efficiently (then V
enturi jets) and thus lowers energy
usage. The base vacuum needs are hereby covered. 2
2
The Twin Head is not compatible with vacuum pumps. The pneumatic supply for a given portal
must not be converted to vacuum operation. If the compressed air supply for that head is
converted to vacuum operation, the return cylinder cannot extend and thus the z axis is stuck in
the top position. 2
2
If a portal is converted from Collect&Place to Twin Head, the original compressed air supply for
this portal must be reconstructed. All components for this portal must be reconstructed.
A partial conversion, e.g., of the pneumatic unit, can lead to severe failures in the placement
machine
when used in compressed air operation because the portal tubes (additional vacuum
tubes) can disconnect. 2
2
If a portal with Twin Head is converted to Collect&Place vacuum operation, the vacuum operation
for that portal must be retrofitted.
If a Collect&Place head which was converted to vacuum o
peration is operated at a compressed
air portal, the head could be severely damaged because the silicon tubes could disconnect. 2
2.2 Prerequisites
Prerequisites for retrofitting are: 2
a) Machines from series No. Š B-079 up with vacuum-cap
able cable drag chain: 2
– 03022236-01 cable drag chain for SIPLACE X series 1P
– 03022237-01 cable drag chain for SIPLACE X series 2P U
– 03021065-01 cable drag chain for SIPLACE X series 2P G
2
Retrofitting of placement machines from series lower than No. B079 is not possible. 2

2.5 Safety instructions
2.5.1 Safety Instructions for Vacuum Pump
In general, for the vacuum pump all manufacturer’s instructions – in addition to the safety
instructions in Paragraph 2.5.2 – regarding safety, particularly all
instructions regarding installation
and operation, must be followed. 2
When the vacuum pump type 2SH7 503 from Gardner Denver Elmo Technology GmbH is turned
on and off, it
can trip the ground leakage circuit breaker installed in the building's power supply.2
In that case Gardner Denver Elmo Technology recommends the use of a universal current-

sensitive ground leakage circuit breaker in systems with drive regulators with a three-phase power
socket (L1/L2/L3). Further information on this subject can be found in the operating instructions
for the vacuum pump system. 2
The vacuum pump should be connected to a separate circuit breaker. 2
When connecting the vacuum pump note that in ad
di
tion to the standard power cable a grounding
wire should be connected. This requires a suitable “grounding rail” in the customer’s power
system. 2
2.5.2 General safety instructions
WARNING
Comply with the higher ranking "Safety Instructions" in Chapter "Operational Safety" in the User
Manual and Service Manual 2
The placement machines SIPLACE are powered by mains voltage.
Portions of the system are therefore conducting dangero
us electricity, inside the machine even
while the master switch is turned off.
Death, serious injury or considerable damage may result if these automatic placement systems
are h
andled incorrectly.
After you have properly carried out the shut-down
of the operating system:
Before all work the machine must be turned off at the main switch a
nd isolated from the mains. In
addition, the compressed air supply must be turned off at the main valve of the compressed air
unit in the machine base and the compressed air lines must be bled by actuating the needle valve
at the compressed air unit.
Danger: For anyone wearing a heart pacemaker it is not permitted to work near linear motors, as
descr
ibed in detail in the User Manual and the Service Manual, Chapter "Special Safety Instruc-
tions when working in vivinty of powerful magnetic fields" .
Obey the applicable accident prevention regulations, DIN stan
dards and special safety codes of
your country at all times. DIN EN 60204 must be adhered to during all work inside the machine
base.
Follow the instructions regarding residual voltages in Chapter "Operational Safety".
Comply with regulations on ESDs (see Chapter "Operational Safety").
During the work of retrofitting secure the machine conscientiously against other personnel and
pre
vent it from being turned back on without authorization, as described in the User Manual in the
chapter "Locking the Machine...".
There is additional, higher risk of accident when working with the SITEST program.
The SITEST program is only to be started by personnel who are authorized to do so. 2
