1 Safety considerations
To ensure that the machine you purchased is used safely and correctly, always comply with the
instructions and rules in this manual regarding safety.
However this manual cannot cover all the items regarding safety in detail. So it is extremely
important that the person who handles the machine makes correct decisions regarding safety.
1.1 To ensure safety
To maintain the safety of the person working with this machine, it is essential that it (including
external component supply units) be installed correctly in compliance with the safety standards
and conditions of that country.
Complying with the safety regulations and laws of that country is the responsibility of the customer
who purchased this machine. The supervisor of the maintenance work must take responsibility to
ensure all the measures have been taken for machine safety.
1.1.1 Defining safety
1. Safety has priority over all other operations.
2. Safety is more important than any other task.
3. Safety is the foundation for work efficiency.
4. Safety begins with maintaining (keeping it neat and orderly) the work environment.
1.1.2 Causes of injuries and accidents
Most accidents are not something that occurs but something that are caused. So it is important to
make an effort NOT to cause accidents.
Hazardous actions
Ignoring causes of accidents
Working on or operating equipment in cramped locations
Working in locations or positions where safety cannot be ensured
Unsafe machine operation and using equipment whose safety cannot be ensured
Working on or operating equipment at speeds where safety cannot be ensured
Working on or operating machines with safety equipment removed
Performing work or tasks with a machine currently in operation
Goofing around during work
Performing maintenance or inspections without wearing safety gear

1.2 Using safety gear
Always wear safety gear when operating or performing maintenance for the equipment.
Helmet: Use during the maintenance work as required
Safety boots & work cap: Use during the maintenance work
Safety glasses or goggles: Use when exposed to light harmful to eyes and when applying
lubricant, etc.
Respiratory gear: Use when handling organic solvents
Safety gloves: Use when removing parts and applying lubricant
(Basically use during the maintenance work.)
Warning: ~ Precautions when applying lubricant (grease) ~
Inflammation may occur if grease or lubricant gets in your eyes. Before handling the grease or
lubricant, wear safety goggles to ensure it will not come in contact with your eyes.
Inflammation may occur if the grease or lubricant comes into contact with skin. Be sure to wear
protective gloves to prevent the grease or lubricant from coming in contact with skin.
Do not take orally or eat the grease or lubricant. Eating will cause diarrhea and vomiting.
1.3 Safety panels below the tape cutter area (common to all the applicable models)
The front and rear safety panels below the tape cutter area are to be removed for servicing the
tape cutter, machine controllers and other parts. To ensure safety of the operator and bystanders,
the machine is equipped with safety interlock which disables operation of the machine when the
safety panels are removed. The safety panel is heavy and bulky, so be careful when handling it to
avoid injuries and damage to itself.

Note:
If the tape cutter fails or a related problem occurs, please do not tamper with the suspected parts
but contact YAMAHA to seek assistance. Unauthorized service or repair wont be covered by
warranty.

Safety panel removed
When the safety panel is removed, the safety limit switch shuts down power to the tape cutter,
disabling the tape cutter operation. (The default cutter blade position is set to “Close”.)
Warning:
Before removing the safety panel(s), be sure to release the air in the tape cutter by operating the air
supply/shut off switch. If you reverse the steps, the cutter blade might move due to the residual
pressure inside the air hose or the unit and may cause serious injuries.
