Brief Description
This installation manual provides instructions on installing the 1.0 version of the SIPLACE® Material
Manager software.
The installation manual contains information on the scope of delivery and requirements for successful
installation.

Scope of Delivery
The delivery contains:
▪ SIPLACE Material Manager Server V1.0, item no. [00117400-xx] including:
– 1 SIPLACE Material Manager Factory License (without machine connections)
▪ SIPLACE Material Manager Media Package V1.0, item no. [00117409-xx] including:
– Software CD ROM SIPLACE Material Manager V1.0
– DVD SIPLACE NET Support Media Version 1.16, item no. [00392803-xx]
– Software Installation Manual SIPLACE Material Manager V1.0, item no.
[00197500-xx]

1.3 Prerequisites
Prerequisites
Administrator authorization is required to install the Material Manager.
Depending on the expected data volume, the Material Manager can be installed in two different
structures:
▪ Local Installation
The Material Manager components and the SQL database will be installed on the same server.
▪ Distributed Installation
The Material Manager components will be installed on one server and the SQL database on another,
separate server.
If more than 4 lines are used in your production environment, "Distributed Installation" is recommended
due to the expected data volume and the resulting performance.
NOTICE
To Support Media DVD:
Please use the Navigation Guide button of the Support Media Launcher to navigate through
the documentation.
The navigation guide and all related documents are available on the Support Media DVD.

Service engineers
The installation of the Material Manager always has to be performed by a specially trained
service engineer.

Hardware
▪ The hardware recommended in the release document is required.
Software
▪ Either the server on which you want to install the Material Manager or another server in your network
already has to function as SQL database server.
▪ The server on which you want to install the Material Manager has to be prepared for the Material
Manager by means of the current Support Media DVD.
▪ The necessary system requirements for SIPLACE Material Manager correspond basically to the
system requirements for SIPLACE Setup Center and are described in the Version Description
SIPLACE Setup Center, item no. [00197284-xx].
▪ If "Distributed Installation" is used, the MS DTC properties have to be correctly set on the server that
shall function as SQL database server (see section "7 Distributed Installation" [ ➙ 45]).
NOTICE
System requirements
The Support Media DVD included in the installation package checks the necessary system
requirements of your system and installs these. Amongst others e.g. Microsoft .NET Frame
-
work, the License Manager and the Error Reporting tool.
The use of the Support Media V1.16 is obligatory.
The system requirements (supported operating systems and database variants) and an over

view of the interoperable products can be found in the SIPLACE Support Media Installation
Manual, item no. [00197214-xx].

2 Preparations
Preparations
The following preparations are required before installing the Material Manager on your system:
▪ Your system has to be prepared for the Material Manager by means of the Media Support DVD.
▪ If you want to use a second system as database server, the MS DTC properties have to be set on
this system (see section "7 Distributed Installation" [ ➙ 45]).
▪ The list printer has to be installed (see section "2.1 Installing the List Printer" [ ➙ 7]).
▪ The label printer has to be installed (see section "2.2 Installing the Label Printer" [ ➙ 7]).
▪ The following information is required during the installation of the Material Manager:
– Path and name of the folder in which the SQL database shall be installed.
– Number of the TCP Dynamic Port.
► Create the folder in which the SQL database shall be installed.
► Ask your system administrator for the number of the TCP Dynamic Port.

2.1 Installing the List Printer
Installing the List Printer
The following steps are required to prepare the list printer completely to be used by the Material
Manager:
► Install (you yourself or your system administrator) the printer driver for the printer that shall be used
as list printer on the Application Server.
► Connect the installed printer to the TCP port of the printer. You will get the IP address required for
the connection from your system administrator.
► Enable the printer for network share.
The network share has to be entered in the configuration later during installation of the Material Manager.

2.2 Installing the Label Printer

The following steps are required to prepare the label printer completely to be used by the Material
Manager:
► Connect the printer to the TCP port of the "Generic / Text Only" printer driver. You will get the IP
address required for the connection from your system administrator.

Ideally, the list printer should already have been installed before you start installing the Material
Manager.

Zebra printer
We strongly recommend the GK420d printer from the Zebra company for printing labels with
the Material Manager. If another printer is used, the labels may not be correctly printed.
